‘Superman’ Has Biggest Trailer Launch for DC Movie on YouTube

Dec 31, 2024

Warner Bros. and DC Studios have something to celebrate this morning. The long-awaited teaser trailer for James Gunn’s Superman was released yesterday, and it’s been (mostly) warmly received by fans who were hungry to see the first look at Gunn’s take on the Man of Steel. The teaser was trending as soon as it dropped and continues to do so today, indicating that many are ready to take flight with the titular character. If there was any doubt, the numbers coming in this morning are backing that up because DC is already soaring to new heights.
According to the numbers from the DC Official YouTube Channel, the Superman teaser trailer is the biggest 24-hour launch for a DC trailer on a single YouTube channel since the pandemic, with 22.6 million views and counting. In addition to the large number of views on the DC Official YouTube Channel, the teaser is also getting a lot of love with likes, with one million users giving the video a thumbs-up.
The teaser is also getting love on other platforms, with 34.6 million views coming from X via James Gunn, Warner Bros., and the official Superman account for the film. All told, between the YouTube channel and the views on X, the Superman teaser has stacked up 57.2 million views in just 24 hours. When measuring just these metrics, it marks the biggest debut of any Warner Bros. trailer – and these numbers keep climbing. A record is likely coming for a DC release because views from accounts all over the world still need to be tabulated and Warner Bros. will certainly want to claim some bragging rights once it’s crunched all the figures.
The Response to the ‘Superman’ Teaser Is Good News For the DC Universe

This is exactly what the new DC Universe needed, because when the teaser for the Superman teaser was released, it was met with some criticism from people on social media who believed that the colorization was wrong and that it looked more like a CW show rather than a feature film. Everyone becomes some kind of expert when a high-profile teaser like this is first released, and it was extremely unfair to judge what the teaser would be based on a quick sneak peek of what was to come. Much of that criticism subsided when the full teaser trailer was released, and now everyone seems genuinely excited about the return of one of DC Comics’ finest heroes.

The reactions to the trailer have been remarkably positive, with many pointing to the emotions it evoked in a relatively short amount of time. Using John Williams’ signature score, the teaser conveyed the optimism of Superman, provided glimpses of the supporting characters, and made everyone fall in love with the adorable Krypto the Superdog. It truly is an expertly crafted teaser trailer, showing just enough but not giving away anything at all.
Written and directed by Gunn, Superman will serve as the first film of the newly established DC Universe. The movie is set to track Clark Kent/Superman’s (David Corenswet) road to balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human life courtesy of his adoptive family in Smallville, Kansas. The film also stars Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Wendell Pierce, Alan Tudyk, and Pruitt Taylor Vince.

Superman hits screens on July 11, 2025.
