James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ Unveils New Image of David Corenswet’s DCU Hero
Jan 27, 2025
James Gunn’s Superman has not even hit theaters, but it’s already generating an immense amount of buzz for the rebooted DC Universe. The official debut of the DCU, Superman is carrying the weight of a new cinematic universe on its shoulders. However, much like its titular hero, the film has had no problem shouldering that burden so far. Headed to theaters later this summer, Superman fans will have to wait a bit longer for a new trailer, but they will be eating good this month, as a new image of David Corenswet (Pearl) in the lead role has been released.
Courtesy of USA Today, which previewed 2025’s biggest movies, a new image (below) of Superman was unveiled showcasing Corenswet as the titular superhero. The DCU debut of the Kryptonian was revealed in December of last year in the record-breaking 2-minute trailer. However, the latest look gives fans an opportunity to see Corenswet’s character in a different light. While the previous footage had the near-invincible superhero bloodied and beat up, he is seen in much happier spirits and spotless in the new still. It’s unclear what the context of the scene is, but one thing is clear — Corenswet looks like a damn good Superman.
The latest look at Gunn’s Superman arrives after it was revealed to be IMDb users’ most-anticipated movie of 2025. The DCU film beat the likes of the long-awaited horror sequel 28 Years Later and the MCU reboot of Marvel’s first family, The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Of course, it’s too early to tell if this unprecedented hype will translate to box office success, as well as a worthy start to a new franchise, but it’s hard to argue Superman could be in a better spot than it is right now. And when it comes to his messy history on the big screen, this has been a longtime coming for fans of the beloved DC Comics character.
‘Superman’ is Getting a Puppy Bowl TV Spot
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Superman is making a big marketing push in early February. During The Puppy Bowl, which takes place on the same day as the NFL Super Bowl, James Gunn and his dog will be presenting an award during the lauded dog-focused ceremony. A new teaser for Superman will reportedly make its debut, and while it’s not clear what it will include, it’s safe to assume Krypto will be included once again. Additionally, Krypto may not be the best dog yet, but the Puppy Bowl will be giving out the “Krypto Super Play” award to one lucky pup.

The first James Gunn ‘Superman’ trailer shows how good David Corenswet looks as the hero.
The interesting part of the report is that it’s not been made certain that fans will be getting a new look at Superman during the much more popular event, the NFL Super Bowl. Although conventional wisdom dictates WB is likely planning on a major marketing push during the live sports event, there is a good chance Superman will be skipping the football game. Paying a hefty premium for a Super Bowl ad has not necessarily translated to sure-fire success, but companies like Marvel Studios and Universal Pictures have been a consistent presence for years. The start of the DCU could use the airtime during the most-watched sporting event of the year, but perhaps the hype surrounding Superman has already netted whatever an ad could do for the film.
