Amy Adams Joins Jarvier Bardem In Apple’s ‘Cape Fear’ Series

Feb 11, 2025

Another high-profile casting selection has been made for Apple’s upcoming limited series version of the iconic thriller, “Cape Fear.” Apple has announced this morning that Oscar-nominee Amy Adams (“Nightbitch”) will take a lead part alongside Javier Bardem (“No Country For Old Men”), who was tapped to play a new incarnation of former inmate turned stalking menace Max Cady.
Nick Antosca (“Channel Zero,” “The Act”) is set to both showrun and adapt the original 1957 novel, “The Executioners,” penned by John D. McDonald, which had been previously turned into two feature films in 1962 and 1991.

The meaty Cady role, who terrorizes the family of a public defender who put him in prison by excluding evidence that would help his client (who he thinks is guilty), had been previously played by Robert Mitchum and Robert De Niro, so tapping Bardem was seen as quite the get. Once released, Cady decides to track down the lawyer and his young family, leading to a deadly cat-and-mouse game. Cady’s threats get increasingly dangerous when the lawyer makes some ill-advised moves to protect his family.
In the new series, we’ll see Cady target married attorneys Anna (Adams) and Tom Bowden.
When you have Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese producing the series (Scorsese directed the 1991 film with Amblin Entertainment’s involvement), it’s hard not to believe that other big names will want to get on the call sheet with Adams and Bardem already confirmed for the anticipated limited series.

Spielberg had previously teamed with Apple for his WWII series “Masters of The Air,” and Scorsese partnered with them for his acclaimed feature film, “Killers of The Flower Moon.”
“Cape Fear” will be getting a 10-episode run on Apple TV+ and a modern setting; stay tuned for further updates on casting additions, including who they want to play, Tom Bowen.
