‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Star Charlie Cox Debunks ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Rumor

Feb 21, 2025

Daredevil: Born Again will once again feature Charlie Cox headlining his own solo series, this time in the MCU and for Disney+, but don’t expect him to join Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. It was recently rumored that the actor would return to the big screen as the Man Without Fear in Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to film later this year. However, Cox himself has addressed the reports, and while it will disappoint fans of the MCU, at least he’s being honest… probably.
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Cox addressed the Instagram post made by a fitness account with a caption that stated the actor was training hard for Avengers: Doomsday. It was never commented on by Marvel Studios or the actor until now. The Daredevil: Born Again star confirmed that the person who posted the image and wrote the caption must have been confused. Cox recalls telling them that he was “getting ready for Daredevil,” which was the truth. They ran with it, assuming he meant the next Avengers sequel, and not Born Again Season 2, shooting next month.

“I was there for Christmas with my family. And on the last day, they asked if they could take a picture with me, which we did. I had said to them, ‘I’m getting ready to play Daredevil,’ ’cause I am! I’m getting ready to play Daredevil in season 2 of ‘Daredevil: Born Again.’ Sometimes people who aren’t really in the [entertainment] world, they don’t understand the terminology or whatever, but for some reason they posted that and they put ‘getting ready for his role in the Avengers,’ which is not true.”

When the post went viral, MCU fans were quick to point out the timing of the caption and the likelihood of the fan-favorite hero making his Avengers debut in Doomsday. After all, it’s supposed to feature a brand-new roster of heroes made popular during the Multiverse Saga. However, Cox was quick to correct this mistake, not in the public eye, but to Marvel themselves. He called up his new bosses and clarified the rumor that went viral. “I had to call my bosses and say, ‘I didn’t say that,’ obviously. Why would I say that?,” Cox told EW.
The ‘Daredevil’ Is Down to Join the ‘Avengers’

He may have debunked the viral social media post, but Charlie Cox is more than down to join the next Avengers films. In fact, he sees it as a natural progression of his role within the grander Marvel universe. It doesn’t sound like anything is set in stone yet, but it’s clear that Cox is keen on being the MCU’s Daredevil for years to come, including on the big screen. After his appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, anything is possible. His words:

“I would love to be in one of the Avengers films, or another Spider-Man, or something like that. For a couple of reasons. One, because over the years I have become a geeky fan of the character, and I weirdly, for the character’s sake, feel like it’d be really cool for him to get that kind of upgrade.”

We wouldn’t expect anything less for Jon Bernthal’s return as The Punisher in the Disney+ revival.

Fortunately, even if he is not in the Avengers films, Cox’s future as Daredevil seems secure for years to come. As Daredevil: Born Again eyes a second season filming date next month, Cox confirmed he is in it for the long haul, if Marvel Studios will have him. “It would be cool for that journey to continue,” he stated. Meanwhile, expect Born Again to eventually reintroduce vigilante members from a smaller superhero team for Matt Murdock to lead, called the Defenders.
