New Comedy Special Featuring Today’s Harshest Comedic Critic On Billionaires & Inequality Premieres March 14
Mar 1, 2025
Comedian Bill Burr has been in the news quite a bit this week. Right-wing commentator Ben Shapiro was accused of being “woke”—the catch-all term for things I don’t like from the right—and an “asshole” because of his comments about health care.
“I don’t know who he is, but that guy is a jerk off,” Burr shot back in a recent interview with The New York Times this week, dismissing Shapiro’s criticism as nothing more than clicks for cash. “All he knew is if he put ‘woke’ on what I said, he would make more money.”

Regardless, Burr, who has championed the social uprising following the death of UnitedHealthcare chief executive Brian Thompson, has really become something of the man of the people and comedic voice of this moment. Burr’s always been unvarnished and cranky. But in his old age, instead of getting more conservative as many white men do, he’s really just pointed his sympathies towards the working class, which fits the bill given his blue-collar roots.
It’s unclear if his new comedy special, “Bill Burr: Drop Dead Years,” will be as “woke,” politically charged or of the moment—it was probably shot months ago—but it is coming to Hulu next month. This highly anticipated special is set to premiere on Friday, March 14, and marks the fifth installment in Hulu’s new stand-up comedy brand, Hularious.
Here’s a synopsis:
“Bill Burr: Drop Dead Years” is the latest one-hour special from one of the greatest stand-up comedians working today. In what might be his most personal and introspective hour yet, Bill offers hilarious takes on everything from male sadness to dating advice.
Burr made his feature-length directorial debut as the co-writer, director, and star of the comedy film “Old Dads” in 2023, and while far from perfect, its exploration of male emotional growth and trying to move past angry male toxicity that does nothing for your spouse, friends or children, was definitely admirable.
