Earth’ Clips Reveal New Prequel Details, Familiar Feline Face
Mar 7, 2025
The Alien saga continues with a mysterious package containing five (!) new clips. FX is in full promo mode, having already shown a clip of the Xenomorph from their upcoming series Alien: Earth in a recent, larger promo video for their 2025 lineup. The upcoming spinoff to the iconic sci-fi franchise is set two years before the events of Ridley Scott’s original 1979 film, in the year 2120, when five corporations – Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic and Threshold – control all technological advancement, promising the world a new tomorrow. Helmed by Fargo and Legion creator Noah Hawley, Alien: Earth is already heavily tied to the original film, but the data drive that we received from FX shows a possibly familiar furry friend showing audiences around the soon-to-crash USCSS Maginot.
The show’s synopsis reads as follows:
“When a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman (Sydney Chandler) and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the planet’s greatest threat in FX’s highly anticipated TV series Alien: Earth from creator Noah Hawley.”
So, in a genius marketing move, FX sent a data drive with five short videos from USCSS Maginot’s feline unit’s collar cam to set the stage for what happens to the crew of the ill-fated ship. The package came with a note that reads: “We suspect there is important information pertaining to Weyland-Yutani’s Deep Space Programs that could be of use to the corporation. Please inspect all elements and report your findings.”
The first video begins with a crew member putting the collar cam on the Jonesy-looking ginger cat and ends with the cat showing viewers the “Priority One” message from the ship’s A.I. control unit, which reads: “Acquisition and safe return of all organisms for analysis. All other considerations secondary.”
The second video gives a taste of the crew as they make small talk while floating through space on their ship, even mentioning the obscure planet Arcturus.
The third video begins to reveal that the crew is perplexed by what they’ve been sent to find, with one crew member asking “Flora or fauna,” and another replying “Maybe both.” We know where that leads.
The fourth video speaks for itself:
Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien’ Legacy Is Stronger Than Ever
The fifth and last promo clip shown above brings audiences up to speed with seemingly where the series will start: with the USCSS Maginot crash landing on Earth, with mysterious samples aboard. Hopefully, since we are seeing clips from the cat’s collar cam, it means the furry feline is alive and well, possibly waiting to board USCSS Nostromo in its future.
The fact that a side character as simple as Jonesy could be such a driving force for the storytelling of the promo material for Alien: Earth is a testament to the immense staying power of Scott’s films. Everyone wants a piece of the Ridley Scott sci-fi pie. Fans of the legendary filmmaker simply won’t let the worlds of his incredibly impressive films, namely Alien and Blade Runner, go gently into the good night – not that we’re complaining. With both Alien: Earth and Blade Runner 2099 taking Scott’s worlds into the realm of TV, it doesn’t look like audiences are done with his stories just yet.
