Woody Harrelson & Simu Liu’s Survival Thriller With 91% Audience RT Lands Digital Release Date
Mar 17, 2025
Last Breath has landed a digital release date. Co-written and directed by Alex Parkinson as a remake of his 2019 documentary of the same name, the new survival thriller follows the true story of a team of seasoned deep-sea divers as they battle the raging elements and race against time to rescue their crewmate trapped hundreds of feet below the ocean’s surface. The movie stars Woody Harrelson, Simu Liu, Finn Cole, Cliff Curtis, Mark Bonnar, MyAnna Buring, and Josef Altin.
Now, Last Breath will be available to rent or purchase on digital platforms starting tomorrow, March 18. It will also be released on Blu-ray and DVD on April 29. Bonus features include a gag reel, feature commentary with co-writer/director Alex Parkinson and co-writer/producer David Brooks, and “Into the Deep: Making Last Breath,” which invites audiences to join Woody Harrelson, Simu Liu, Finn Cole, and filmmakers in a deep dive into the making of the real-life thriller.
What Last Breath’s Digital Release Date Means For The Movie
It Ends A Mediocre Box Office Run
Arriving tomorrow, Last Breath’s digital release marks the end of the movie’s mediocre box office run. The film was released in theaters on February 28 and debuted to just under $8 million in its opening weekend, finishing second at the box office behind Captain America: Brave New World in its third weekend. In the survival thriller’s second weekend, the movie made $4 million, marking a nearly 50% decline and dropping to third place. Now, Last Breath has effectively ended its box office run with $19 million total, falling short of its $23 million budget.

However, the movie’s mediocre box office does not represent Last Breath’s reviews, which have been generally positive, indicated by its 79% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics have praised the survival thriller for masterfully building tension, delivering a gripping true story with remarkable efficiency, and a consistently excellent performance from Woody Harrelson. It’s also been received well among audiences, indicated by its 91% score, who found the film to be a thrilling underwater adventure that brings an extraordinary tale of human resilience and camaraderie to life.
Our Take On Last Breath’s Digital Release Date
How Will It Fare At Home?
After an underwhelming box office run, it remains to be seen how Last Breath fares on digital platforms. However, it has a chance to find a wider audience at home among those who weren’t motivated to see the movie in theaters, and with few major digital releases in March, the film could benefit from this less crowded market. With a solid survival thriller premise, and two recognizable stars in Woody Harrelson and Simu Liu, Last Breath could end up overperforming on digital platforms.
