‘The White Lotus’ Composer Reveals He Will Not Return for Season 4

Apr 5, 2025

Before the upcoming Season 3 finale, The White Lotus has just lost one of its key creative voices due to conflicts with series showrunner Mike White. The hit HBO drama, which has already landed a Season 4 renewal, will be without its composer moving forward. A startling piece of news for longtime fans, especially since the show’s frenetic and iconic score does a lot to set the stage for the zany, twist-filled adventures of those staying at the White Lotus resort.
In an interview with The New York Times, The White Lotus composer Cristóbal Tapia de Veer was honest about his creative differences with Mike White, which seemed to grow as each season was made. After having conflicting visions for the musical score, including a back-and-forth about the lack of the “ooh-loo-loo-loo” chorus in Season 3, Tapia de Veer said he let the editorial team know that he was not returning for Season 4. Of course, the creator of The White Lotus eventually found out.

“I announced to the team a few months ago that I was not coming back, that I was leaving. I didn’t tell Mike for various reasons; I wanted to tell him just at the end for the shock and whatever. Except I told the whole editorial team and music editor and producer and all that, but I didn’t think that they were going to tell him. At some point he heard about that.”

It seems, despite the Emmy-nominated nature of their work, that the creative collaboration between White and Tapia de Veer on The White Lotus simply broke down due to the constant push-and-pull nature of the partnership. The final result has been beloved by fans across the world, but getting to that point was a hassle for the composer, it seems. “I was like, OK, this is like a rock band I’ve been in before where the guitar player doesn’t understand the singer at all,” Tapa de Veer said. It’s safe to say that viewers should expect a new musical composer for the fourth season, but weirder things have happened in Hollywood.
‘The White Lotus’ Season 3 Finale Gets Exciting Update

HBO

As fans grow anxious about The White Lotus Season 3, a recent news drop reassured them that Mike White has a lot more in store than anticipated for the finale. The final episode of Season 3 will have a 90-minute runtime, which is around 12 minutes longer than the second season finale. Some viewers have been frustrated as of late with the lack of development with several subplots, including Timothy Ratliff and his personal struggles, which seem to be finally reaching a climax in the feature-length finale. As the finale trailer teased, it seems the show will finally answer who will be leaving the White Lotus resort in a body bag, and who will make it out alive (but otherwise unwell).
The cast of The White Lotus Season 3 features Leslie Bibb as Kate Bohr, Carrie Coon as Laurie Duffy, Walton Goggins as Rick Hatchett, Aimee Lou Wood as Chelsea, Sarah Catherine Hook as Piper Ratliff, Jason Isaacs as Timothy Ratliff, Lalisa Manobal as Thidapon “Mook” Sornsin, Michelle Monaghan as Jaclyn Lemon, Sam Nivola as Lochlan Ratliff, Lek Patravadi as Sritala Hollinger, Parker Posey as Victoria Ratliff, Natasha Rothwell as Belinda, Patrick Schwarzenegger as Saxon Ratliff, and Sam Rockwell as Frank.
