Amazon & Sony Pictures Television Have A Series Adaptation In The Works For Prime Video

Apr 10, 2025

A classic book series will get the TV treatment over at Prime Video. Deadline reports that Amazon & Sony Pictures Television have a series adaptation of Wang Dulu‘s “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” books in the works.  Jason Ning and Ron Moore will executive produce the drama series via SPT, with plans to adapt Dulu’s Crane-Iron Pentalogy more faithfully than Ang Lee‘s 2000 film.

Sony has wanted to adapt “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” into a series since it regained the rights to Dulu’s books two years ago as part of first-look deal with Vertigo. The studio handed Ning the keys to adapt the series for TV almost immediately, but Moore didn’t come on board the project until last year. Now Moore has two major Sony series in the works for Prime Video, the other being a “God Of War” TV series, based on the popular videogame series.
Published between 1938 and 1944, Dulu’s Crane-Iron Pentalogy follows four generations of youxia, ancient Chinese folk heroes who battle each other in beautiful and exotic locales. The central storyline follows Shu Lien and Mu Bai, two warriors in love with each other who struggle with their forbidden romance and the lures of an encroaching modern world on their fighting tradition.
Other executive producers on the upcoming series include Maris Davis via Tall Shit Productions, Johnny Levin, Roy Lee via Vertigo, and Hong Wang and Qin Wang for the Wang Dulu estate.  Ying Lou also co-executive produces.
Don’t expect “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” to premiere on Prime Video for another two years at least.
