Emma Corrin, Jack Lowden & Olivia Colman To Star In Netflix’s Limited Series Adaptation Of Classic Jane Austen Novel

Apr 11, 2025

Does the world need another “Pride And Prejudice” adaptation? Perhaps not, but the castings for Netflix‘s upcoming six-part limited series based on Jane Austen‘s novel should make it fresh enough. Deadline reports that Emma Corrin, Jack Lowden, and Olivia Colman will star in the series, which plans to shoot in the UK later this year. Corrin plays Elizabeth Bennett, Lowden Mr. Darcy, and Colman Mrs. Bennett, respectively.

Dolly Alderton will adapt Austen’s novel for the limited series, with Euros Lyn directing. Executive producers on the project include Lyn, Corrin, Laura Lankester, Will Johnson, and Louise Mutter via Lookout Point.  Lisa Osborne produces.
A classic novel like Austen’s “Pride And Prejudice” needs no introduction, but here’s a brief synopsis anyway.  Austen’s second novel follows Elizabeth Bennet, the unmarried second daughter of a family without any male heirs in the family, which means there’s lots of family pressure on Elizabeth to marry well and retain their Hertfordshire estate. “Pride And Prejudice” isn’t just about the issue of marriage in the class confines of the landed gentry, however.  It’s also a formidable work about all sorts of social issues: education, upbringing, manners, and personal ethics, among other things. And that’s why it’s been adapted into movies and series for decades at this point, including the 1995 BBC version with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle, or the 2005 film version with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen.
At least those involved in Netflix’s production are aware about what comes with a new adaptation “Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story, and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it,” Alderton said in a press statement. “Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” is the blueprint for romantic comedy – it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life. With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count “Pride and Prejudice” as their favourite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr Darcy,” she continued.
It’s safe to expect “Pride And Prejudice” will hit Netflix sometime in 2026.
