Will Sharpe & Ayo Edebiri Topline New Rom-Com Series At Apple

Apr 22, 2025

Will Sharpe, who had a supporting role in last year’s Oscar-winning film “A Real Pain,” is behind a new romantic comedy series, “Prodigies,” that has been picked up by Apple TV+ and will co-star in-demand Emmy-winner Ayo Edebiri (“The Bear”).
The streaming service has announced today that Sharpe will co-star and direct “Prodigies,” as the series will focus on two ex-child prodigies played by Edebiri and Sharpe, who are now in their 30s and navigating various relationships, including romantic ones.

An official logline for “Prodigies” from Apple reads:
This unusual take on a classic romantic comedy explores the universal complexities of long-term relationships through the lens of a very unique couple. Didi (Edebiri) and Ren (Sharpe) are two ex-child prodigies who have been together since they were children. Now in their early 30s, they are starting to question whether their very ordinary existence is living up to the extraordinary promise of their childhood. Inevitably, they find themselves asking the same questions of their relationship. As individual hopes and needs feed into and conflict with their shared lives, the series challenges the fallacy at the heart of romantic storytelling — that the tale is over when the heroes get together. In life, surely, that is just the beginning?
“Prodigies” was created and written by Sharpe, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Edebiri and others on the producing team. Those names are Jane Featherstone (“Black Doves,” “Giri/Haji”), Naomi De Pear (“This Is Going to Hurt,” “Flowers”), and Katie Carpenter (“Landscapers,” “Flowers”) for SISTER.

Sharpe, a BAFTA and SAG Award winner, has been making waves with acting roles on shows such as Mike White‘s “The White Lotus,” the crime thriller show “Giri/Haji,” and will play iconic composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the limited series “Amadeus.”
