Mutant Mayhem Trailer Is Chaotic In The Best Way

Mar 10, 2023

After nearly a decade since they were last seen in theaters, the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem trailer has arrived. Seth Rogen is producing and starring in the animated movie reboot as the mutant warthog Bebop, with The Mitchells vs. the Machines’ Jeff Rowe making his feature directorial debut on a script from Neighbors co-writer Brendan O’Brien. Rogen and his creative team are looking to better emphasize the teenage aspect of the eponymous heroes more than any other adaptation before.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Fresh off of the cast being announced for the film, Paramount Pictures has released the official Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem trailer.

The video, as seen above, offers the proper first look at Rogen’s animated reboot project, which looks to pit the eponymous young heroes against a full cabal of iconic villains, namely Giancarlo Esposito’s Baxter Stockman. The trailer also reveals the art style being used for the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, which looks to skew much closer to its source comics than any other adaptation. Also released alongside it was a brand-new poster, included below:

What The TMNT Trailer Reveals About Mutant Mayhem

Set to the tune of A Tribe Called Quest’s “Can I Kick It?”, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem trailer is already showing plenty of promise for Rogen’s animated reboot movie. As the producer/star previously indicated, the film looks to be properly capitalizing on the group’s young age for much of its humor and character dynamics, namely using their burgeoning ninja skills for fruit-killing goofing off and still learning on the job as Donnie accidentally gets one of Raph’s sais stuck in his leg.

The teenage element of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem trailer appears to even extend beyond the eponymous characters to iconic ally April O’Neil, voiced by The Bear and Big Mouth’s Ayo Edebiri. Though still retaining her journalist drive seen in prior adaptations, the character looks to have been aged down to be of a similar age to the turtles. While prior April depictions have seen her sympathetic to the turtles’ desire for acceptance, it would be interesting to see if the film has her as something of an outsider herself, and thus being an empathetic friend.

Outside of the characters themselves, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem trailer teases how Rogen and his creative team will be paying homage to the source comics. In addition to recreating the comics’ art design, mixed with hints of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and The Mitchells vs. the Machines, the footage teases Easter eggs will likely be. major part of the film as the turtles meet April on the roof of a building named The Laird, a nod to comics co-creator Peter Laird. Only time will tell what other Easter eggs the film has in store when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem hits theaters on August 4.
