3-Part ‘Project Hail Mary Meets The Expanse’ Sci-Fi Thriller Is Officially One of the Biggest Hits on Streaming
Sep 7, 2026
Three years after it was first released, one of the most underrated sci-fi shows in years is making a comeback on digital streaming. It’s safe to say that we’ve been absolutely spoiled by great sci-fi shows over the past decades. Everything from major hits like The Twilight Zone, The X-Files, and Star Trek, to more recent critical sensations like Humans, The Expanse, and Black Mirror have taken us to the furthest reaches of space and introduced us to terrifying new technology that is scarily close to being real. But one of the best sci-fi series of this decade takes us into outer-space and then some, as we follow the isolated crew of an interstellar flight to secure a new home for the human race. It’s perilous, thrilling, and phenomenally written, and it’s blowing up on streaming. With its third season releasing weekly on Syfy, The Ark is finding renewed success on digital streaming. New episodes are available to stream the day after their Syfy debut on Peacock. But some are taking their fandom even further by purchasing the show digitally on Fandango at Home (formerly Vudu). The streaming platform is usually dominated by sitcoms, like The Big Bang Theory and The Office (but usually just The Big Bang Theory). However, The Ark cracked the sitcom formula and is currently the fourth most popular show on the platform.
‘The Ark’ Takes the Sci-Fi of ‘The Expanse’ and Blends It With ‘Lost’

When you combine two of the best shows of the century into one sci-fi thriller, it’s incredibly hard for it to not be a hit. The Ark blends the interstellar, sci-fi vibes of The Expanse with the plot of Lost. Set 100 years after the Earth has been decimated, a catastrophic disaster has killed most of the senior crew and officers on the space station, the Arc One. Still years away from reaching Proxima B, a potential new home for the human race, the surviving astronauts must survive against the perils of space and each other. The series stars Stacey Read, Tiana Upcheva, Richard Fleeshman, Christie Burke, Christina Wolfe, and Samantha Glassner.
Will ‘The Ark’ Get a Fourth Season?
The Ark shouldn’t have run for as long as it has. Yes, it blends a beloved genre with a well-worn and popular story archetype. But the show doesn’t have an A-list star to its name and, on the spectrum of the sci-fi genre, its survival thriller/drama is more on the niche side — at least, compared to the usual action-heavy sci-fi shows on Netflix and other streamers. Yet, The Ark has overcome those restrictions to become a three-season hit on Syfy, Peacock, and Fandango. Season 3 airs its final episode this month. Only then will we know whether the show hs been picked up for a fourth season. Unfortunately, the third season hasn’t got enough reviews to generate a Rotten Tomatoes score. So it’s hard to gauge whether the critical reception has been strong this time around.
