An exciting new project from Prime Video just got more enticing with the announcement of its leading man. There are still a few details to gather about the streamer’s upcoming eight-part thriller, but with its latest casting news, the project is sure to gain a built-in following. Prime Video is set to adapt the Skybound graphic novel Stillwater, a thrilling story from writer Chip Zdarsky and Eisner Award-winning artist Ramón K Pérez. The series got the green light from Amazon back in July, but Variety now reports that Ben Hardy is set to take on the lead role. Hardy, who viewers may recognize from Bohemian Rhapsody and X-Men: Apocalypse, will play the series’ leading man, Daniel West.

The story follows Hardy’s West in a “mind-bending horror thriller.” A brief synopsis of the plot is more than enough to hook horror audiences, explaining that “when Daniel receives a mysterious letter promising answers about his past and a substantial inheritance in the small town of Stillwater, he discovers a community where nothing ever ages, no one ever dies, and nobody ever gets out.” Executive producers Greg Berlanti and Carly Wray were “thrilled” to add Hardy to the cast, according to Variety. “We’ve been fans of Ben’s for a long time, and we’re thrilled to get to tell this story together,” they said. “There’s a toughness to him, but also something incredibly open and soulful underneath it. Daniel needs both. From the moment we saw Ben in the role, it was impossible to imagine anyone else.”

Hardy has showcased his acting across a range of film and television projects, and he’s recently been enjoying a more horror-themed shift in his career. Some of his most recent projects include The Conjuring: Last Rites, in which he played Tony Spera, and the podcast series The ABC’s of Murder, which sees him play Donald Fraser alongside Peter Dinklage’s Hercule Poirot. That recent horror experience will be put to good work in Stillwater, which has a talented team behind it. On top of Hardy, the project tapped Leigh London Redman, Sarah Schechter, and Robbie Rogers of Berlanti Productions to produce, alongside seasoned comic book favorite Robert Kirkman. Also in executive producer roles are David Alpert, Rick Jacobs, Glenn Geller, and Jonathan Gabay.

The project is still in the early stages, so no other casting news has been announced just yet. We’ve got a fair wait before the series officially debuts on Prime Video, but in the meantime, audiences can experience Ben Hardy’s recent horror hits, and perhaps take a look at the Stillwater comic to get hyped ahead of the show’s release.
