After helping deliver the third-highest-grossing movie in history with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Marvel Studios is fast approaching its return to serialized storytelling on Disney+ in October. Next up for the franchise is Marvel Television’s VisionQuest, the third chapter in the trilogy that also includes 2021’s WandaVision and 2024’s Agatha All Along. Here, Paul Bettany will continue his run as one of Marvel Studios’ longest-standing stars, having first debuted in 2008’s Iron Man as the voice of Tony Stark’s AI assistant, JARVIS. VisionQuest will bring back more than a few major names from past MCU projects, highlighted by the return of James Spader as the terrifying supervillain Ultron. Human avatars of other famous AI programs from MCU history are set to join them, including James D’Arcy’s Edwin Jarvis, while the show also brings back classic human villains like Faran Tahir’s Raza, the leader of the Ten Rings faction seen in Iron Man. Now, as seen in new footage, this series will also include one of the oldest characters in comics history.

Marvel Television released a new 34-second teaser trailer for VisionQuest ahead of its premiere on Disney+. Along with new looks at Paul Bettany’s Vision and James Spader’s Ultron, the trailer shows new footage at the 29-second mark of a man on fire in the middle of a large library. This further confirms an appearance in this series by Jim Hammond, who is known as the original Human Torch from Marvel Comics. Before Johnny Storm’s Human Torch from the Fantastic Four, Hammond first became the original Human Torch in Marvel Comics #1, released in 1939, when Marvel was still known as Timely Comics.

This is not the first time this Human Torch has been seen in the MCU, as he was used for an Easter egg in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. At the 1943 Stark Expo (known then as the Exposition of Tomorrow), a massive glass case houses a bright red costume and notes that it was created by Phineas T. Horton, known in the comics for creating the Human Torch. This character is an android who teams up with Captain America in the comics, and even kills Hitler at one point. As of this writing, it’s still unclear what role Hammond will play in VisionQuest or how he will be introduced to the franchise. However it happens, he’ll be the latest addition to a long line of iconic superheroes brought to life in live-action, giving viewers a look at one of the heroes that helped Marvel first get off the ground nearly nine decades ago.
