5 Years Later, Spin-Off of Netflix’s Rescued Sci-Fi Hit Reaches a Major Milestone

Oct 21, 2026

Manifest is one of the few examples of a canceled television series finding new life on a streaming platform. After being canceled by NBC in 2021, Netflix added the supernatural drama to its extensive library, and it immediately shot to the top of Netflix’s streaming charts. The series even broke records, including 28 consecutive days at the No. 1 spot. Manifest’s viewership numbers grew so large that Netflix simply couldn’t ignore them. The company did something that’s almost unheard of in the streaming era: it revived the series for a fourth and final 20-episode season, which concluded in June 2023.

Although Manifest officially ended in 2023, its popularity on Netflix has never waned. From July to December 2025, more than two years after the series finale, the supernatural drama racked up over 128.2 million hours viewed on the platform. More than seven years after its debut, Manifest continues to attract audiences, demonstrating that its loyal fan base remains strong while new viewers continue to discover and fall in love with the series. Now, Jeff Rake’s Manifest universe is set to expand with a new spin-off series, Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery.
The spin-off was announced two months ago at 828 Day, but updates have been scarce ever since. Now, however, things are moving forward behind the scenes, with a filming location and character breakdowns officially revealed. Jeff Rake, the original creator of Manifest, is returning to the franchise as co-creator and co-showrunner. He’ll be joined by Margaret Easley and Laura Putney, both of whom worked on the original series as co-executive producers. The official logline for the upcoming series reads as follows:
When a mysterious plane crash-lands in Denver, the passengers emerge with no memory of who they are, where they came from, or why they’re here. A young social worker and a novice Homeland Security agent team up with the new arrivals in an attempt to stop a humanity-ending catastrophe, discovering along the way that they are all part of the very puzzle they’re trying to solve.
Per What’s on Netflix, pproduction listings confirm that Arrivals: A New Manifest Mystery will film in Vancouver, British Columbia, from January 19 to June 9, 2027. Since the new series is set in Denver, production will move away from the original Manifest’s New York filming locations. Although no casting announcements have been made yet, Libby Goldstein and Junie Lowry-Johnson are leading the casting search. The duo’s involvement should be an encouraging sign for fans, as they also cast the original series.

While no actors have been officially announced or cast for the spin-off, character breakdowns offer a first look at the people who will drive the new mystery. The upcoming series is expected to feature the following roles:

Zoe: A 27-year-old social worker who grew up in foster care. Smart and compassionate, she longs for a family of her own.

Mike Deaver: A former Air Force helicopter pilot who now works for the Department of Homeland Security. He eventually teams up with Zoe.

Wes: A weathered, guarded man in his mid-50s who is fiercely protective of his family. He lives off the grid with Sloane and Joe, whom he has raised for years.

Sloane: A tough, loving, and resourceful 19-year-old who shares a close bond with Joe. She also has a pulmonary condition that requires her to use an inhaler.

Billy: Zoe’s wealthy, charming ex-boyfriend. A commitment-phobic playboy with a complicated past, he nevertheless has a good heart underneath it all.

Selena: A strong, commanding natural leader with a history with Wes. Tough on the outside but deeply compassionate underneath, she’s willing to make difficult choices to protect her team.

Director Gary Bolton: A by-the-book DHS director who trusts facts, rules, and procedure. Risk-averse and focused on maintaining control, he prefers to play it safe.

Francisco: A hardworking family man who believes he deserves more from life. Fiercely loyal, he’s willing to bend his morals to protect his family.

With filming wrapping in June 2027, Arrivals may not land on Netflix until early 2028. In the meantime, all four seasons of Manifest are available to stream (and binge) on Netflix.
