Goodbye ‘Lioness,’ Paramount’s Hit 114-Episode Military Thriller Is Officially KIA on Streaming

Oct 19, 2026

Taylor Sheridan’s Lioness might be one of the biggest shows on streaming (with a fourth season on the way), but Paramount’s perfect military action thriller replacement just suffered a major defeat. With Taylor Sheridan set to leave Paramount and CBS in 2028, the networks have been scrambling to find suitable replacements for his many, many successful shows. Finding something to replace the neo-western giant that is Yellowstone (and the Marshals and Dutton Ranch) spin-offs is a near-impossible task. But in the case of Lioness, Paramount had that in its library years ago. After an immensely successful resurgence on streaming this year, the Lioness replacement is officially KIA. Released in 2017 and running for 114 episodes up until 2024, SEAL Team has been one of 2026’s biggest streaming surprises. The series rose to prominence once again on Paramount+, where it surpassed many of Sheridan’s shows to become the biggest series on the platform globally. In late 2026, it was also added to Netflix, and it achieved a similar feat, reaching #1 on Netflix’s global streaming chart. However, the posthumous hype has since died down, and SEAL Team’s deployment on the streaming charts has come to an end. The series has been knocked off Paramount+ and Netflix’s streaming charts, both globally and in the US. It’s not all bad news though, as the series is still available on both platforms.
‘SEAL Team’ Was a Rare Double Streaming Hit

SEAL Team’s recent success on Paramount+ had a cause. In the build-up to Lioness’ excellent third season (which recently concluded), everyone was scrambling for a military thriller to get lost in, instead of just re-watching Lioness for the 14th time. The show has long been a Paramount staple. It originally aired on CBS during its early run, before exclusively moving to Paramount+ in 2021, midway through its fifth season. However, its surge in popularity after being added to Netflix was unprecedented. It’s incredibly hard for a series to crack the global top 10 on a single streaming platform, let alone two, at the same time.
‘SEAL Team’ Is a (Mostly) Accurate Military Thriller

CBS

SEAL Team is an amazing show in its own right. The series stars David Boreanaz as Jason Hayes, who leads a unit of Navy SEALs (if the title didn’t make that obvious), with a supporting cast that includes Max Thieriot, AJ Buckley, Neil Brown Jr., and Jessica Pare. The show was a tremendous hit, holding an 85% overall Rotten Tomatoes user score. Only Season 1 has a critics score on RT, but that sits at 71%.

But what made SEAL Team special was more than just its character-focused narrative; it felt as close to realistic as a military TV series can come. Obviously, it takes some liberties in the name of artistic expression, but realism was one of the show’s core principles. As well as the extensive training the core cast undertook, SEAL Team also hired real veterans as background performers. That way, it looked like everyone knew what they were doing, and it drew you further into the story.
