Taylor Sheridan’s seminal five-season western is officially one of the biggest shows on streaming, once again, all while its latest spin-off fights for the #1 spot on the charts. Taylor Sheridan keeps going from success to success. After his hit western ended, he followed it up with two gigantic spin-offs (even if one of them was incredibly divisive), as well as new seasons of his other hit shows, Lioness and Tulsa King (which just dropped its fourth season on Paramount+). His new action thrillers and neo-westerns are mainstays on the streaming charts, as they churn out a new season each year. But it’s Taylor Sheridan’s original western series that’s making an unexpected comeback. Despite airing its final episode two years ago, Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone has made a welcome comeback on the streaming charts. The new season of Tulsa King is currently the number one series on Paramount+ globally, with Marshals’ latest season in third, and Lioness in fifth. But just behind Sheridan’s hit military action thriller is Yellowstone, which is currently the sixth biggest series on Paramount+ globally. Yellowstone repeatedly bounces on and off the streaming charts. It appears that the hardcore Taylor Sheridan fan base repeatedly rewatches the series ahead of each new spin-off (you have to praise that kind of commitment).
‘Yellowstone’ Had Its Rough Patches, But It’s Still a Fantastic Modern Western

Yellowstone is hardly a flawless masterpiece. There are some questionable writing decisions here and there, and some characters quickly became incredibly annoying (and that’s before you get to the fifth and final season). However, the series is still a tremendous modern western that helped to modernize and popularize a waning genre.

If you’re one of the five people who hasn’t checked out the show yet, it stars Kevin Costner as John Dutton, the patriarch of the incredibly powerful Dutton Ranching family. While they spend more time committing major crimes than actually farming or herding cattle, the series is an intense, character-focused thriller, as the Duttons stave off anyone and everyone who wants to steal their land. Yellowstone also stars Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, Luke Grimes, Kelsey Asbille, Wes Bentley, Jefferson White, Gil Birmingham, and many more.
What Will Paramount Do Without Taylor Sheridan?

The repeated success of Yellowstone on Paramount+ is as much of a blessing for Paramount+ as it is a curse. Taylor Sheridan is leaving Paramount in 2028, after signing a new deal with NBCUniversal. However, Paramount+ is often informally referred to as the Taylor Sheridan network, as (aside from South Park and MobLand) it’s his shows that repeatedly bring in the viewers. It isn’t clear yet whether Sheridan will be taking his hit shows with him, or whether they will remain on Paramount+ for the foreseeable future. But Paramount will need to find some new shows to fill that massive void.
