Alien: Romulus
premieres August 16, featuring space explorers facing deadly xenomorphs on a horrifying uncharted planet.
The crew’s survival is a desperate battle against relentless creatures in an alien environment full of terrifying secrets and ruins.
Directed by Fede Alvarez, the film promises an intense sci-fi horror experience set on the space station named Romulus.
Alien: Romulus is about to premiere on the big screen, and 20th Century Studios has released the final trailer for the next installment of the franchise. While previous trailers for Fede Álvarez’s movie focused on the horrifying imagery coming straight from outer space, the new one reminds audiences what the premise of the film is about one last time. An unlucky crew prepares a heist that is supposed to take place in a short amount of time. But they never expected to come face-to-face with the most dangerous creature in the universe. Alien: Romulus owes its name to the space station where all the action will take place in.
Cailee Spaeny stars in Alien: Romulus as Rain Carradine. The young woman will have to find a way to survive her encounters with the dangerous monsters stuck inside the space station. Spaeny will be joined by David Jonsson, Archie Renaux and Isabela Merced. The events of the upcoming movie will take place after the original Alien, but before the plot of Aliens kicks off. It remains to be seen if there will be a direct connection between Álvarez’s movie and other titles from the franchise. In the meantime, the new trailer for Alien: Romulus reminds audiences why these creatures have remained relevant in pop culture for decades.
Alien: Romulus will be the first movie set in the franchise since Alien: Covenant was released a few years ago. The next step for the series created by Ridley Scott was uncertain, until Álvarez and his long-time collaborator, Rodrigo Sayagues, were hired to write the screenplay for the upcoming release. Álvarez seemed like the right choice to lead the franchise into the future after his work on Don’t Breathe and Evil Dead proved that he had a unique eye for the horror genre.
The Future of ‘Alien’ Looks Bright
The new characters introduced in Alien: Romulus will also allow a new generation of viewers to become interested in the long-running franchise. And the upcoming movie is not the only Alien project in development. It was recently announced that the Hulu television series set in the world of the franchise will be titled Alien: Earth. After a long period of time when it appeared that the xenomorphs would be relegated to comic books and video games, Alien: Romulus will swoop in to expand the legacy of the franchise. The only competition Álvarez’s movie will face during its first few weeks at the box office will be the new version of The Crow.
Alien: Romulus premieres August 16. Check out the new trailer above.
