HBO ‘Harry Potter’ Series Image Reveals Dominic McLaughlin in Title Role
Mar 25, 2026
The first official look at HBO’s upcoming reboot of Harry Potter has finally arrived, and it is already teasing a magical trailer release. As we inch closer to the show’s expected 2027 release, the network has begun to reveal more about the highly anticipated fantasy series, starting with a new peek at The Boy Who Lived. On Instagram, HBO has released the first look at Harry Potter with a new image featuring Dominic McLaughlin as the titular wizard in his school garb. Broom in hand, it looks like he is heading to a Quidditch tournament, as his Gryffindor robes have his number and name on them. Viewers will surely get to see Potter in action in the Hogwarts sporting event in the first season. Additionally, it appears that another peek at the series will be released soon, as the social media post has the caption “Tomorrow,” seemingly teasing the first trailer. Check out the image below. Hopefully, the impending trailer release for Harry Potter will give us a better look at the rest of the main cast. Alongside Dominic McLaughlin, the show stars Alastair Stout as Ron and Arabella Stanton as Hermione, rounding out the trio that will feature in every season of the upcoming series. If nothing else, HBO’s Harry Potter will have to work hard to convince fans that the reboot is worth the trouble of trying to live up to the expectations set forth by the iconic film franchise. The first teaser has a lot of weight on its shoulders, as it must prepare audiences for something entirely new, while appealing to their sense of nostalgia.
HBO
Harry Potter has been in production, and while filming has not been completed on the first season, the series is expected to premiere on HBO sometime in 2027. It’s been a lengthy process for the television reboot, which began filming in July 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden. However, considering that the big-budget fantasy adaptation is rebuilding the world of Harry Potter from the ground up, completely recreating iconic locations using practical sets, it’s not a shock that the first batch of episodes will take a year to produce. With the sets built, it should be a quicker process moving forward, which is especially important since HBO intends to adapt each book into a season as part of a decade-long plan.
So far, Harry Potter has found its actors for the main cast of Season 1, including John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Nick Frost as Hagrid. However, fans are still waiting to hear who will play the eventual antagonist of the franchise, Voldemort. While recent Oscar winner Cillian Murphy has been floated around, the actor himself has been adamant that he does not form part of the Harry Potter reboot. Instead, Paul Bettany has been the most recent name to surface online, with a rumor detailing that he is in talks for the coveted role.
