After Screening SUPERMAN James Gunn Says There Will Be “Little Changes,” and Potential “Tiny” Reshoots — GeekTyrant

Mar 5, 2025

James Gunn isn’t done tinkering with his Superman movie just yet. The director and co-head of DC Studios recently revealed that early screenings for the highly anticipated film have taken place, and as a result, they’re making adjustments and potentially even shooting some additional footageSpeaking at a press conference covered by The Nerds of Color, Gunn confirmed: “We’ve done screenings, we’ve done real screenings. Definitely learning stuff all the time, definitely editing and making little changes. You know, we might shoot a couple little, tiny things.”For Gunn, the idea of additional photography has evolved over time. He admitted: “All my additional photography is so hard, because it’s like, I used to be kind of against it. Because, you know, you don’t want to have to shoot again. “It’s a pain in the ass. But as time has gone on, and I’ve made more movies, I really like being able to say, ‘You know what? I wish I had a shot that fist hitting that…’ And so I do tend to go back and pick that kind of stuff up. So it wouldn’t be anything major, but those kinds of things.”This update comes after Gunn said several months ago that he is going to film a few “pickup shots” to “enhance the film,” but no reshoots. When previously asked how he manages to reduce the need for reshoots, Gunn responded with six tips:“1) Over-prepare. 2) Don’t start shooting until I have a finished script my whole team is happy with 3) Hire actors and department heads I know can do their jobs 4) Surround myself with people who will challenge me and not just yes-sir everything 5) Ask myself daily – are there any small imperfections in the script or what we’re shooting that might end up feeling like huge imperfections when we cut the film together? 6) 1 and 2 again!”With Superman set for a July release, Gunn seems focused on fine-tuning rather than making drastic changes. The film introduces David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel, alongside Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor. Superman will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned. “It’s set in a world very different from ours and far removed from the DCEU. Heroes have been around for ages, and we’ll see how it affected this world’s history and has shaped the DCU.”Superman will launch the movie part of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. It’s scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
