‘Agatha All Along,’ ‘The Penguin’ & More

From the new major superhero series to the two under-the-radar series premiering their fourth seasons, plenty of television for every type of viewer is hitting screens this September. The big names are the spinoff series “The Penguin” and “Agatha All Along,” both of which focus on breakout characters from their respective predecessors.
Elsewhere, there’s the recently nominated fourth season of critical favorite “Slow Horses” and the final season of the HBO series, “My Brilliant Friend.” For comedy there’s the latest bite-sized series for FX with “English Teacher.” If none of that strikes your fancy and you’re looking for something more peculiar, check out the upcoming adult-animated series from Zack Snyder. As always, there will most definitely be some surprise hit that sneaks its way onto the top of our “to watch” list. Here are 13 TV shows to check out in September.

“English Teacher”
Created by and starring Brian Jordan Alvarez, “English Teacher” is the latest comedy series for FX. Alvarez stars as an English teacher in Austin, Texas who finds himself dealing with the intricacies of working in a high school where he attempts to make a positive impact. Stephanie Koenig, Enrico Colatoni, Sean Patton, and Carmen Christopher also star.
Release Date: Season 1 premieres September 2 on FX.
“Slow Horses”
The previously under-the-radar espionage thriller “Slow Horses” returns for its fourth season on Apple TV+. The season deals with the fallout of a bombing and the secrets that come out of it, threatening the foundation of Slough House. Season four might see an uptick in popularity with its recent Emmy nominations. The drama received major nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Gary Oldman, and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for Jack Lowden. Release Date: Season 4 premieres September 4 on Apple TV+.
“The Perfect Couple”
Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Dakota Fanning, and Eve Hewson all star in the upcoming Netflix drama “The Perfect Couple.” Based on the novel by Elin Hilderbrand, the series is directed by Susanne Bier (“The First Lady”) and created by Jenna Lamia (“My Best Friend’s Exorcism.”) The series follows a woman about to marry into a wealthy family just when a body is found on the beach, inciting mystery as everyone becomes a suspect.
Release Date: The series premieres September 5 on Netflix.
