Amanda Seyfried is having a bit of a renaissance over the past several years. After breaking out in a big way thanks to roles in films like “Mean Girls” and “Mamma Mia!” her career took a bit of a dive. Not necessarily a bad thing, of course, but a noticeable dip. That changed when she landed a role in David Fincher’s “Mank” and then, of course, her award-winning role in “The Dropout.” Now, she’s back with a new TV show, “Long Bright River,” that could also earn her a bit of awards season buzz.

With the series debuting on Peacock in March, we now have first-look images from the upcoming drama series, “Long Bright River.” In the show, Seyfried plays a Philadelphia police officer who works primarily in a neighborhood hit hard by the opioid crisis. However, when a series of murders look like they are connected, the police officer gets further involved with the members of the community. 

“I could tell that it was written by somebody who also has experience with a loved one or loved ones who have battled it—and succeeded or failed and got through it or not,” Seyfried explained (via Vanity Fair). “I knew that I had to do this. I felt like I owed something to Philly.”

She also talked about her trepidation playing a police officer. This is because she knew that people don’t always view police in the best of lights. But Seyfried says this series shows both sides of the police coin.

“It felt a little off, putting the uniform on—even though I was on set—because we’re living in a time when there’s a lot of tension and a lot of corruption,” Seyfried said. “We show the ring of cops that are just fucking around for their own sake, for their own pockets. But I really felt like it was my job to remind people of the good ones—that there’s always the good ones too.”

“Long Bright River” also stars Nicholas Pinnock, Ashleigh Cummings, Callum Vinson, and John Doman. The series is based on the novel of the same name from author Liz Moore. Nikki Toscano serves as director, writer, showrunner, and producer on the series. 

“Long Bright River” debuts on Peacock on March 13. You can see some of the first-look photos below:
