AMC’s Neo-Noir Drama With Clive Owen Premieres In Early 2024

Sep 8, 2023

What’s not to love about this upcoming TV series? After the success of “The Queen’s Gambit” on Netflix in 2022, creators Scott Frank and Allan Scott went into high demand. And for Frank’s next project, he teams up with “OZ” and “Homicide” writer and “City On A Hill” showrunner Tom Fontana for a take on Dashiell Hammett‘s legendary detective Sam Spade. Expect AMC‘s “Monsieur Spade” to be one of the most anticipated series of next year, all the more because Clive Owen is in the starring role.
“Monsieur Spade” sees Owen’s detective enjoying retirement in Bozouls, France, but after nuns at a local convent are murdered, Spade fears an old foe has returned, and it’s all connected to a child rumored to possess powers of some kind.

Here’s an official synopsis of “Monsieur Spade,” courtesy of AMC:
Monsieur Spade centers around the infamous protagonist of American writer Dashiell Hammett’s 1930 classic novel The Maltese Falcon. The year is 1963, and the legendary Detective Sam Spade (Owen) is enjoying his retirement in the South of France. By contrast to his days as a private eye in San Francisco, Spade’s life in Bozouls is peaceful and quiet. But the rumored return of his old adversary will change everything. Six beloved nuns have been brutally murdered at the local convent. As the town grieves, secrets emerge, and new leads are established. Spade learns that the murders are somehow connected to a mysterious child who is believed to possess great powers.
“Monsieur Spade” also stars Cara Bossom, Denis Ménochet, Louise Bourgoin, Chiara Mastroianni, Stanley Weber, and Matthew Beard.  Jonathan Zaccaï and Rebecca Root round out the main cast.
Frank and Fontana co-create “Monsieur Spade,” with Frank also writing, executive producing, and directing. Other executive producers include Barry Levinson, Teddy Schwarzman, Michael Heimler, Owen, Caroline Benjo, Barbara Letellier, Simon Arnal, Carole Scotta, Carlo Martinelli and David Helpern.  Black Bear produces the series with Heat et Court TV in conjunction with the Dashiell Hammett Estate.  FilmNation Entertainment handles the show’s international distribution.
So how will Clive Owen’s Sam Spade hold up to the legendary performances of Humphrey Bogart? Find out when “Monsieur Spade” premieres on AMC in early 2024. Stay tuned for an official premiere date. Watch a teaser trailer for the upcoming series below.
