And Just Like That… a Trio of Newcomers Join Sex and the City Sequel Series

Jun 29, 2024

Summary

Mehcad Brooks, Jonathan Cake and Logan Marshall-Green will join Season 3 of the
Sex and the City
revival,
And Just Like That…
as guest stars.
The three OG actresses from
Sex and the City
(Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon) all return for Season 3, but Kim Cattrall’s Samantha Jones is still MIA — aside from her small Season 2 cameo.

And Just Like That…
will reportedly return in 2025.

Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) and her friends will be swapping stories over cosmopolitans in The Big Apple with a trio of new characters when Season 3 of And Just Like That… returns. The sequel series, which is a spin-off of the immensely popular Sex and the City (1998-2004), adds Mortal Kombat actor Mechad Brooks as well as Jonathan Cake and Logan Marshall-Green to the mix for its third go-round (per Entertainment Weekly).

Genre fans will immediately recognize Brooks, who portrayed Superman’s pal, Jimmy Olsen — although he preferred to be called James — on The CW’s Supergirl for five seasons. Brooks is no stranger to television work, as he has appeared on Law & Order for the last two years as Detective Jalen Shaw. Brooks’ credits also include time spent on Desperate Housewives, True Blood and Necessary Roughness.

And Just Like That… Release Date December 9, 2021 Studio HBO Entertainment, Home Box Office (HBO), Michael Patrick King Productions

Cake also spent some time in The CW’s Arrowverse as a guest star on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and more extensively in the DC Universe on Stargirl. Like Brooks, Cake guest starred on Desperate Housewives, too. Finally, Marshall-Green appeared on the big screen in Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. But Marshall-Green is probably best known for his work in the feature films Prometheus, The Invitation and Upgrade.

Sex and the City’s OGs All Return for Season 3, Except for Samantha

Carrie Bradshaw (Parker) certainly seems like a toxic friend on the streaming series And Just Like That… But showrunner Michael Patrick King has really put Carrie through the ringer on the Sex and the City revival — making it seem like she’ll never find her happy ending. The first episode of Season 1 saw Carrie’s husband, Mr. Big (Chris Noth), die of a heart attack. And then last season, the other “big” love of her life from Sex, Aidan Shaw (John Corbett), showed up. But he left after a family emergency called him away. However, fans needn’t worry because Aidan is back in the fold for Season 3.

So, who is officially confirmed for the third season? Of course, it wouldn’t be And Just Like That… without the show’s leads Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis returning — and they all are. Sadly, for die-hard fans of Sex and the City, Kim Cattrall’s Samantha Jones hasn’t RSVPed for Season 3, and she won’t unless something drastic changes.

Even though viewers finally got to SEE Samantha speaking with Carrie over the phone in the Season 2 finale, it appears the streaming series will continue to limp along without one of the key components that made Sex so popular in the late ‘90s and early 2000s for six memorable seasons on HBO — not to mention those two feature films.

Related Kim Cattrall Says and Just Like That Cameo Is ‘As Far’ as She’ll Go Audiences should not expect to see Cattrall as Samantha Jones following her And Just Like That… season two cameo.

Original Sex and the City alums Mario Cantone, David Eigenberg, Evan Handler and the aforementioned John Corbett are all back for more adventures in Manhattan. And the remainder of the And Just Like That… cast is rounded out by Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, Christopher Jackson, Niall Cunningham, Cathy Ang, Alexa Swinton and Rosie O’Donnell.

And Just Like That…
should return in 2025, but an official release date hasn’t been announced at the time of this writing. Fans can stream and/or binge-watch Season 1 and 2 on
Max.
