‘Andor’ Season 2 Aiming For Release In Summer 2024

Apr 7, 2023

Lucasfilm still hasn’t released a “Star Wars” feature film since 2019’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” But that hasn’t slowed down the studio’s live-action division as they have been primarily focused on creating original TV content for Disney+. It’s hard to argue that one of their more prestige series is “Andor,” a prequel focusing on the origins of Rebellion spy Cassian Andor while also exploring other rebels running things secretly on Coruscant under the looming threat of being discovered by the Empire.

But what about “Andor” Season 2? Thankfully, now there’s some idea of where things are going as showrunner Tony Gilroy and star Diego Luna were on hand during this week’s Star Wars Celebration in London. The pair shared a first-look with footage from the final episodes in season two and Variety mentioned what that audience got see in it:
“Season 2 footage revealed at the event showed Mon Mothma trying to rally a rebellion. Villain Syril Karn (Kyle Soller) also seems to have a bigger role in the show. Meanwhile, Luna’s Cassian Andor was shown with a new hairdo. Season 2 introduces a number of new characters.”
Filming won’t wrap until August, suggesting a 2024 release for the show’s second season, as Gilroy had previously given hints it could be ready by next summer.
The returning cast alongside Luna is expected to include Stellan Skarsgard, Denise Gough, Genevieve O’Reilly, Kyle Soller, Faye Marsay, Adria Arjona, Alex Ferns, Anton Lesser, Alastair Mackenzie, Ben Miles, Elizabeth Dulau, and others. Directors for the new season consist of Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz, and Alonso Ruizpalacios, with Kleiman potentially tackling six of the twelve episodes.
Gilroy already confirmed they’ll end “Andor” after all 24 episodes as they have an endgame for the show, unlike “The Mandalorian,” which is expected to continue beyond its planned fourth season. So a good assumption may be that the next run of episodes leads up to Andor’s introduction in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” when he meets an informant on the Ring of Kafrene and learns about the Death Star (referred to as a “planet killer”) and proceeds to shoots Daniel Mays‘ Tivik to avoid his arrest/interrogation by Imperial forces.
We just saw an #Andor Season 2 trailer! All our favourite characters are back. There’s escalation among the rebels, the Empire is catching on, with plenty of war to come. “If we do not stand together, we will be crushed,” says a desperate Mon Mothma.
