Anson Mount Teases Potential Revival of Black Bolt Character in MCU
Jul 23, 2023
Marvel relentlessly weaves narratives that captivate the imagination and stir the emotions of millions worldwide. Among these captivating tales is the intriguing prospect of Anson Mount reprising his role as Black Bolt in the MCU.
Mount, notably recognized for his present role in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, played the role of the mystifying ruler of the Inhumans in Marvel’s Inhumans television series, which was broadcast on ABC back in 2017.
Black Bolt’s intriguing story didn’t stop at the Inhumans series. The character reappeared in the 2022 film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, albeit in a cameo role, as part of Earth-838’s Illuminati.
Alongside other iconic superheroes like Captain Carter, Maria Rambeau’s Captain Marvel, Reed Richards from Fantastic Four, and Professor Charles Xavier of the X-Men, Black Bolt added depth to an already rich ensemble. Regrettably, his character met a tragic demise when the Scarlet Witch used his very own sonic superpowers as a weapon against him.
Nevertheless, the intriguing concept of a multiverse opens the possibility for Black Bolt’s comeback, a prospect Anson Mount is open to. During a chat with RadioTimes.com, the actor explained that even though no official offer has been made, he has been in loose discussions with the influential figures at Marvel. Mount shared,
“If the answer was yes I wouldn’t be able to tell you — but the answer is no, so I can. I’ve had some informal conversations with the powers [at] Marvel and it’s a conversation, but they’ve got their current phase that they need to do. I don’t know, we’ll see. I would love to jump back into the cowl and do it again. I love Black Bolt as a character.”
He also conveyed his affection for the Black Bolt character and expressed interest in returning to the role. His commitment to the character was evident in the Inhumans series, where he developed his unique sign language for Black Bolt to communicate with the royal family on Attilan.

Marvel’s exploration of the multiverse, evident in productions like Loki, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, is set to continue in MCU Phase 5. The culmination of this Multiverse Saga is set to be in the forthcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. The latter is anticipated to feature an array of crossovers and cameos reminiscent of Multiverse of Madness.
Mount has reflected warmly on his involvement with Marvel, describing the call he received from the president and producer of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, as a surprise and honor. Fans can currently stream Marvel’s Inhumans and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on Disney+, while new episodes of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds are available on Paramount+.
For now, the prospect of Anson Mount once again donning the mantle of the silent king offers a tantalizing possibility for Marvel devotees worldwide.
