Feb 22, 2024
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will reportedly be retitled, and a recent report has explained Marvel’s reasoning for why it will make the change.
Summary
Marvel are reportedly considering retitling Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.
Speculation surrounds the fate of the movie following both the MCU parting ways with Jonathan Majors and the lackluster response to Kang’s cinematic debut.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel are reportedly moving forward with a retitle, and are considering minimizing or omitting Kang to remedy issues.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is still in jeopardy, with plans for a retitle resurfacing in recent reports that delve into Marvel’s plans to save the MCU. For several months surrounding Kang star Jonathan Majors’ conviction, speculation has swirled over the fate of Kang’s titular movie. This followed a lackluster response to the villain’s cinematic debut in the MCU timeline with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and was compounded by the controversy surrounding Majors. While it wouldn’t be difficult to pull off a recast and stick with the original plan, it looks as though Marvel is taking more drastic action.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel is going ahead with plans to retitle Avengers: The Kang Dynasty while either minimizing or omitting Kang entirely as part of its overarching efforts to remedy recent stumbling blocks. Despite the studio’s recently released slate of upcoming movies retaining the title of Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, it appears that it’s all hands on deck concerning significant retooling of the MCU’s future releases in its attempts to recuperate the losses of last year’s failures, especially in the wake of the negative record-breaking box office hel The Marvels. The retitle does, of course, carry some big implications.

What Avengers 5 Retitle Could Mean For The MCU
Retitling Avengers movies isn’t a new thing for Marvel. Avengers: Endgame was originally Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 before it was changed to mirror Doctor Strange’s solemn observation. In this case, however, the retitle did not come with a rewrite of the Infinity Saga’s climactic movie, whereas the changes reported for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty may require some changes to the film’s plan, which is still in its earliest stages of development. Instead, a retitle of the movie that features Kang specifically in its title suggests that a new villain will be taking center stage.
As far as that goes, Doctor Doom is probably the front-runner replacement. The Secret Wars run of comics does, after all, feature Doom in a central role, while the Fantastic Four’s debut MCU movie could be the perfect launchpad for the arch-villain. Alternatively, the MCU is running out of time to spotlight the Young Avengers in their own team-up movie, something that could become the focus of Avengers 5. Whatever Marvel plans for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, it is more likely to pivot than drop the movie entirely.
