Barry Keoghan Joins Cillian Murphy & Rebecca Ferguson In Cast Of Upcoming Netflix Film

Aug 29, 2024

Last month, the upcoming “Peaky Blinders” film at Netflix had its first splashy casting with Rebecca Ferguson joining the movie’s ensemble.  But the latest to join the cast may be an even buzzier addition, as THR reports that Barry Keoghan will also star in the upcoming film. Production on the film begins this Fall.

Nabbing Keoghan is a big coup for “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight, as the Irish actor is in vogue at the moment after inspired performances in “Saltburn” and “The Banshees Of Inisherin.” Keoghan adds the Netflix film to his list of upcoming films, including Andrea Arnold‘s “Bird” (which premiered at Cannes in May), “Bring Them Down,” and Trey Edward Shults‘ latest.
The “Peaky Blinders” film sees Cillian Murphy return as Birmingham gangster Thomas Shelby in a new story set during WWII.  Plot details are under wraps at the moment, but Knight writes the film’s script, with Tom Harper returning to direct.  Knight serves as co-producer on the movie with Caryn Mandabach, Murphy, and Guy Heeley. Harper will serve as an executive producer alongside David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren, and David Mason.
It’s no surprise that Murphy returns for more “Peaky Blinders,” but he’s a much different star since the show last aired. Since then, the Irish actor won a Best Actor Oscar for “Oppenheimer,” catapulting him into another stratosphere. But Murphy can’t wait to play Shelby again, saying in a press statement: “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me.… It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of “Peaky Blinders.”
No word on who Keoghan (or Ferugson) plays in the “Peaky Blinders” movie, but their casting indicates that Knight wants the upcoming movie to be a major new story. So who else will get cast before the film starts production next month? Stay tuned on that: it wouldn’t be surprising for another A-lister to join its ranks.
