‘Black Panther’ MCU Spin-Off ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ To Introduce New Iron First

Jun 10, 2025

The Black Panther franchise is expanding this year with the upcoming Disney+ series Eyes of Wakanda, which follows Wakandan warriors retrieving stolen artifacts across different time periods. The animated anthology series will directly connect to the film franchise, also spearheaded by executive producer Ryan Coogler. However, it will also introduce new bits of MCU history and characters, including what appears to be a new version of a Marvel superhero that previously made his debut in a Netflix series. During the Annecy Animation Festival (via Variety), Eyes of Wakanda creator and showrunner Todd Harris confirmed that the animated series will re-introduce a superhero that made his debut during the Netflix era of Marvel Television. “There will be an Iron Fist in here, and not the Iron Fist you expect,” Harris stated. Finn Jones (Game of Thrones) previously played Danny Rand, aka Iron Fist, in the Netflix solo series as well as the crossover event, The Defenders. However, it appears that Eyes of Wakanda will introduce a version of the protector of Kun Lun from another era. With the series visiting different time periods in the MCU, it seems it won’t shy away from including other major Marvel heroes.

Chadwick Boseman can never be fully replaced as the Black Panther but that doesn’t mean this young star can’t make a legacy of his own as T’Challa.

While a third Black Panther film is well on its way, fans will be able to revisit Wakanda sooner rather than later. The four-episode miniseries has been in the works since 2021, and is closely related to the film franchise. Coogler, who also produces Ironheart, remains closely attached to the iconic property as an executive producer for Eyes of Wakanda. The series cast features Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams, Patricia Belcher, Larry Herron, Adam Gold, Lynn Whitfield, Jacques Colimon, Jona Xiao, Isaac Robinson-Smith, Gary Anthony Williams, Zeke Alton, Steve Toussaint, and Anika Noni Rose. The Disney+ series is set to premiere on Aug. 6. Check out the official plot synopsis below:
“Marvel Animation’s new action-adventure series ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ follows the adventures of brave Wakandan warriors throughout history. In this globe-trotting adventure, the heroes must carry-out dangerous missions to retrieve Vibranium artifacts from the enemies of Wakanda. They are the Hatut Zaraze and this is their story.”

Iron Fist May Return in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Season 2

Netflix

The introduction of a new Iron First in Eyes of Wakanda from a different time period probably means that the MCU still views Danny Rand as the current bearer of the mantle. If so, this lends credence to the long-standing speculation that Finn Jones is set to reprise his role as the character in an upcoming project. Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is currently filming, and with Krysten Ritter back as Jessica Jones, it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the Defenders reunite. Jones’ return as the Iron Fist got some momentum recently when the actor, as well as Mike Colter (Luke Cage), were spotted in New York, where Born Again Season 2 is now filming. Of course, until any confirmation, their potential return remains speculation. However, with Daredevil (Charlie Fox) building an army to take down Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio), the Defenders are by far his most powerful allies. With an appearance by Spider-Man increasingly unlikely, the Man Without Fear will need any help he can get. Source: Variety
