Born Again Gets Hugely Promising Update From Kingpin Actor Vincent D’Onofrio
Dec 22, 2023
Summary
The Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again will be released under the new Marvel Spotlight banner, maintaining the same grounded, gritty tone as the Netflix show and MCU series Echo. Changes in the show’s production have been made, with new writers/directors on board, but the big bosses are giving it extraordinary attention and care. Echo, a new Marvel show, has received positive reactions for its grounded action and the central performance of Alaqua Cox, with comparisons to the previous Daredevil outings.
Marvel star Vincent D’Onofrio has offered an enthusiastic update on the development of The Kingpin and Daredevil’s return in the Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again. While the production has been rather troubled, with Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige recently ordering a complete reworking of the show, D’Onofrio has now revealed that Daredevil: Born Again will be released under the new Marvel Spotlight banner “for sure,” and that it will maintain the same grounded, gritty tone as both the Netflix outing and the newest MCU series, Echo.
“It’s the same tone and feel.”
Back in October, all the writers and directors who had been on board for Daredevil: Born Again were reportedly “quietly let go,” with the series being completely reworked. Since then, the show has recruited The Punisher producer Dario Scardapane and Loki directing duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead. And, according to D’Onofrio, these changes have worked out perfectly…
“The attention the big bosses are giving to it is extraordinary. Charlie and I are just amazed by how much they care about this series.”
D’Onofrio made these revelations via @PostCredPod, with the actor assuring fans that Daredevil: Born Again will maintain the same street-level threats and brutal action sequences that we all fell in love with the Netflix Daredevil show.
While the Disney+ series will bring back several cast members, including D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox as the titular vigilante, it is largely being developed as its own thing. So, it’s promising to hear that it will keep much of what made the original, and seemingly what makes new series Echo, work so well.
Speaking of Echo…

Echo First Reactions Praise the Grounded & Gritty Action
Marvel’s Echo Release Date January 9, 2024
The first reactions to Echo have heaped praise on the grounded action and the central performance of Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez, aka Echo, who was first introduced in Hawkeye.
“More mature than other #disneyplus #marvel shows, great fight scene. Loved Kingpin. Fab Action. Feels more like ‘TV’. Lower stakes, perfect for the new Spotlight brand. Can’t wait to see the other episodes.”
Many have complimented the use of much lower stakes, something that Daredevil: Born Again will no doubt emulate, and have favorably compared Echo to the previous Daredevil outings.
“Personally I didn’t enjoy all parts, the show is definitely brutal, dark, has calm moments with a strong focus on Maya. Also Daredevil fans will no doubt like what they did in the show.”
“Saw the first two episodes of #echo tonight and have a lot of thoughts. I think fans of Netflix’s Daredevil are going to love it. It’s like Marvel remembered it can be violent and dark. Alaqua Cox is amazing! Although I don’t love all the creative decisions.”
While some critics have found issues with Echo, it seems that the use of the new Marvel Spotlight title, which promises more violent, mature material, has worked out well for the latest adventure in the MCU.
“If the world ending stakes of the MCU have you longing for something more grounded #Echo is the gritty tonic. Two episodes seen and it’s a hard hitting action thriller with a great sense of Native American culture.”
Echo is scheduled to be released in its entirety simultaneously on Disney+ and Hulu on January 10, 2024. Check out the trailer below:
