Born Again’ Season 2 Adds Matthew Lillard
Mar 6, 2025
Daredevil: Born Again has yet to premiere on Disney+, but Marvel Studios is already moving quickly for Season 2. Set to film shortly after Born Again airs on the streamer, the second season will see Charlie Cox once again become the Man Without Fear, but he’ll be joined by several new faces. One of which is a Scream icon, and recently made waves as the main antagonist in Blumhouse’s Five Nights at Freddy’s hit video game adaptation.
Deadline reports that Matthew Lillard is set to join the second season of Daredevil: Born Again. In typical MCU fashion, it’s unclear at the moment who the Scream star will be playing on the Disney+ streaming series. Conventional wisdom says he will likely play a villain role in the Marvel show, but Lillard is no stranger to playing the good guy, too. Lillard has kept busy lately, from making a surprise return to the Scream franchise in the upcoming seventh installment, to filming his part as William Afton in the new Five Nights at Freddy’s sequel. Born Again is among his most high-profile gigs yet, and hopefully one that lands him a significant role in the MCU series.

Lillard is a new addition to the franchise, but it’s been confirmed that Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 will feature several familiar faces. A direct continuation of the first season, Deborah Ann Woll is set to reprise her role as Karen Page. The Daredevil star has called the upcoming season’s scripts “amazing,” which will consist of eight episodes. Meanwhile, another recent cast addition is Tony Dalton as his Hawkeye character, the Swordsman.
‘Daredevil’ Director Teases “Tragedy” That Upends Matt Murdock’s Life
Disney+
One of the show’s lead directors, Justin Benson, told us recently that Daredevil: Born Again begins with a traumatic event that shakes Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock to the core. Of course, he refrains from spoiling the tragic surprise, but it seems longtime fans will be right there alongside the titular vigilante in sharing his grief.
“It was important to us to start out the show with feeling how these characters have evolved since we last saw them… feeling like a big warm hug. Because when the big thing happens, it’s in contrast to that big warm hug, you feel the tragedy even more, and you feel that event as something that shakes the faith of Matt Murdock/Daredevil in such a way that he would question everything about his place in the universe.”
Before the series was reworked during production to be a direct follow-up to the original Netflix series, many had speculated that Born Again only featured new actors because Marvel had made the controversial decision to kill off the beloved show’s original cast. As seen in the trailers, most of them are alive and well now, but Benson’s “tragedy” tease could spell disaster for some older characters. Fans will have to find out for themselves when the series arrives on Disney+ next week.
