Born Again’ Showrunner Teases Karen Page’s Future in the MCU

Mar 13, 2025

Daredevil: Born Again show creator addresses fans’ concerns about the amount of, or lack thereof, Karen Page in the Disney+ series, hinting there might be more for Deborah Ann Woll’s character on the horizon. For the most part, Daredevil: Born Again has been a major win for Marvel Studios and Disney+, earning positive reactions from fans and critics alike. Yet, following the episode’s shocking and controversial opening scene, many of Daredevil’s supporting characters from the original series have been sidelined, with the season premiere revealing Karen Page now lives in San Francisco, far away from the typical New York setting.
Speaking with TV Line, Daredevil: Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane spoke about Ann Woll’s “limited presence” as Karen Page in the series. The creative said he would question that particular phrasing as “there are things to be revealed,” hinting at the upcoming episodes or the already confirmed Season 2. Scardapane delved into that further, hinting that this is not the last fans have seen of Karen Page in the MCU, explaining, “Because it is this [superhero] world, and I don’t count everything out quite yet. There are returns that I think are surprising and inevitable.”

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Puts an MCU Spin on a Controversial Comic Moment

The opening sequence of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ features a shocking moment that puts an MCU spin on a frequent Daredevil story trope.

A big reason for her minor presence in Daredevil: Born Again is due to the fact that Deborah Ann Woll and Foggy Nelson actor Elden Henson were not initially set to return for the series. Following the show’s shutting down production due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, the series was retooled to be closer in tone and continuity to the original Daredevil series from 2015 to 2018. Instead of throwing out the already completed episodes, Dario Scardapane was brought on as the new showrunner and created the new opening episode for the series that featured Karen Page and Foggy Nelson. While Page might not appear in the next batch of episodes, as they were part of the original episode order, she could appear in episodes that were commissioned during the rewriting process. Even if Page doesn’t appear in the rest of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, she could pop up in plenty of future projects.
Karen Page’s Future in the MCU, Explained

Disney+

Deborah Ann Woll is already confirmed to appear in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, and since she was cast before the series started filming, she will likely have a more significant presence than in Season 1. Given that the MCU has established that Page and Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle / The Punisher have a connection, she might also appear in the upcoming Special Presentation that Marvel has confirmed is in development. Meanwhile, Page also name-dropped San Francisco, a reference to the various points in the comics where Matt Murdock / Daredevil moved to there. Yet, within the MCU, the city is home to heroes like Ant-Man, The Wasp, and Shang-Chi, meaning Marvel Studios could build a meaningful connection between the world of Daredevil and these brighter, more colorful heroes right before Avengers: Doomsday.
It certainly is no wonder fans want to see more of Karen Page. Ann Woll took the character whose comic book legacy was tragic and, at times, a little misogynistic, and fleshed her out into a fully realized character that fans love just as much as Daredevil. Much like how Tony Stark, Matt Murdock is known for having a long list of ex-girlfriends and lovers in the comics. Woll’s depiction of Karen Page, like Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, made her someone fans are rooting for to become the romantic endgame for The Man Without Fear. She is missed in Daredevil: Born Again, but hopefully, she will be back for more soon.
