Bosch Is in the Crosshairs of Something Way Bigger Than We Thought

Apr 10, 2025

Editor’s note: The below recap contains spoilers for Bosch: Legacy Season 3 Episode 8.
Bosch: Legacy’s final season is rapidly coming to a conclusion, and we’ve got a finale in sight. One month after Jimmy Robertson’s (Paul Calderon) murder, it looks like we finally have a name for the killer — and it’s not who the LAPD thought. While Chandler (Mimi Rogers) holds her ground, and Bosch (Titus Welliver) puts himself in the crosshairs of something far bigger than a robbery crew, things are dangerously personal for Vasquez (Denise G. Sanchez) as she confronts her nephew over his involvement in serious crimes — and in the best moment of the episode, we get a Coltrane cameo.
The Cartel Brutally Clocks In in ‘Bosch: Legacy’ Season 3 Episode 8

We open in the desert with unfamiliar faces speaking Spanish. One guy shows up late — apparently a habit. He’s mocked, told he’ll “get used to the schedule,” then brutally beaten. His punishment? Getting his teeth smashed in with a crowbar. “Here’s your alarm clock,” says the boss, calmly. The cartel isn’t playing around.
Vasquez meets Maddie Bosch (Madison Lintz) in the car. Maddie warns her: not turning in Albert Torres (Tommy Martinez) could get someone hurt. Vasquez knows it’ll tear her family apart—Albert is the golden boy of her sister’s heart—but Maddie has her back either way. Vasquez makes her decision. She confesses everything to the LAPD and says she wants her nephew arrested safely. Meanwhile, Harry Bosch sees Sam the dog walker (played by Welliver’s daughter, Cora), who’s thrilled to share she got into Chapman. She spots Robertson’s photo, shot in the head. Harry promises: “I’m going to catch the one who did it.”

Chandler meets with Diego Perra’s (Esteban Carmona) lawyer. With Perra’s DNA absent from the murder weapon, Chandler suggests a deal. If Perra was set up, he might know who did it. Bosch and Mo (Stephen A. Chang) meet a forensic chemist who links trace elements under Juan Doe’s fingernails to a location in Lancaster. Bosch decides it’s time to go see for himself.
Vasquez calls her sister and gently nudges her to get out of the house — clearing the way for the sting on Albert. Victoria (Andrea Cortés) finally cracks. She tearfully confesses to her parents at the family restaurant: she’s in deep trouble and needs help. Nestor Gomez (Jesse Gallegos) and Albert prepare to sell their stash. Albert receives a call claiming his grandfather needs help. He rushes off — but it’s a setup. Meanwhile, south of the border, a cartel boss gets a troubling call: “The case against Perra hasn’t gone forward.” The voice on the other end admits they framed him.

Bosch, Mo, and Det. Perry Lopez (Miles Gaston Villanueva) visit United Chemical. Management claims they’ve never seen Juan Doe, never hire migrants—but Bosch spots the cartel boss from the desert among the workers. Perra tells the LAPD he was hired by El Fuerte as muscle to shake down taco trucks. He was told to stay away the night of Robertson’s murder. The man who gave that order? “The Pope.” Perra doesn’t know his real name, but he can draw him.
Back in Lancaster, the sheriff warns The Pope that Bosch and Lopez are getting too close — then slips a tracker on his car. Corrupt, yes—but he may not be entirely gone. Vasquez and Maddie wait for Albert at the nursing home. He never shows. Vasquez checks the hat box—empty. Instead, she finds a photo of herself, Albert, and her sister with a note: “Say hi to your auntie for me.”

And what will it mean for Chandler and Bosch?

The sheriff tips off LAPD brass that Bosch and Lopez are working off-book. Albert, meanwhile, is mid-deal when the buyer says Victoria already spoke to him. Nestor panics. LAPD choppers circle above. It’s a sting. Nestor tries to flee with the money—and gets gunned down in the street. Albert and Victoria panic and attempt to run. Maddie tackles Victoria. Vasquez corners Albert with a gun. He surrenders.
At a motel connected to the Juan Doe case, Bosch rips open a mattress — and finds Black Ice. He calls the sheriff to collect it. Instead, Humberto Zorrillo (Manuel Uriza), cartel enforcer and the man behind the Pope alias, shows up, gun in hand. He never enters the room. Bosch watches from inside, locked and loaded. Zorrillo backs off. But now Bosch knows his face. Mo’s surveillance confirms Zorrillo’s ID. At LAPD, Chandler calls in the DEA and links Perra’s tattoo to Zorrillo. It all connects. Robertson was investigating a fentanyl smuggling ring involving Juan Doe, and the cartel struck first. This wasn’t a robbery gone wrong. It was a hit. Bosch wants Zorrillo — and he’s almost out of time.
