Brand New Day’ Is Based on Fan Internet Comments
Sep 6, 2025
Oh god, he did it. He read the comments. You never read the comments. Tom Holland is officially admitting what some Spider-Man fans have joked about for years: yes, Marvel is reading your Reddit comments. In a new interview, Holland said that the plot of Spider-Man: Brand New Day — his fourth solo outing in the MCU — has literally been shaped by what he’s seen fans asking for online.
“What’s been really fun about this most recent movie is designing the suit and being a part of that process and understanding what we wanted to try and achieve. I have been actively sifting through the internet and trying to best understand what it is that the fans want from a ‘Spider-Man’ movie, and that’s been my driving force in these pitch meetings. I think the producers, at times were like, absolutely sick of me, but I think it’s really important, because we make these movies for [the fans].”
That means Reddit threads, Twitter memes, fan theories, maybe even that random Tumblr post from 2016 — all of it could have fed into what ends up on screen next summer. Whether that’s thrilling or terrifying probably depends on how often you’ve yelled online about Spider-Man needing a new suit, or about Peter Parker getting too cozy with the Avengers.
Spider-Man “Feels Different” Now
Holland has been spotted shooting in Glasgow, where production kicked off this summer with a bang — literally. Fans caught him riding a tank down a high street, waving to crowds between takes, and he told AFP he loved how it felt.
“Yesterday, I was on top of a tank driving down the high street in Glasgow, in front of thousands of fans, and it was awesome. It was so incredible, it was exciting, and exhilarating, and it felt fresh.”
It’s a big spectacle moment, but Holland seems equally excited about having more creative input this time around. After three solo movies, a multiverse crossover, and plenty of Avengers cameos, Brand New Day marks a new level of ownership for him. Destin Daniel Cretton, director of the thrilling Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is helming the movie, while Holland’s Peter Parker will be joined by Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, along with returning stars Zendaya and Jacob Batalon. New faces include Sadie Sink, Tramell Tillman, and Liza Colón-Zayas. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will open in theaters on July 31, 2026. bran
