Brave New World’ Sets Digital & 4K Blu-ray Release Dates
Apr 14, 2025
Captain America: Brave New World wasn’t quite the theater-filling, internet-breaking hit Marvel Studios were hoping it to be. But, the movie (which was released in theaters in February this year) now has the chance to redeem itself with a digital release. Brave New World finally gave Anthony Mackie his own standalone film in the MCU, after a decade of supporting from the sidelines as Sam Wilson, a.k.a. The Falcon. The film had enough star power to be a success, with Harrison Ford taking over from the late William Hurt as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, and Giancarlo Esposito playing Seth Volkeur, better known as Sidewinder, a dangerous mercenary and member of the Serpent Society. Unfortunately, a lack of turnout in theaters resulted in the film crawling past its reported $180 million budget at the domestic box office, taking home $199 million.
Captain America: Brave New World has set its digital and physical release dates. Audiences can buy or rent Harrison Ford “being an idiot for money” as Red Hulk on digital on April 15. The film will release digitally on most digital media stores, including Amazon, Apple TV+, Fandango at Home, and more. Brave New World will then be released on 4K Blu-ray and DVD just under a month later on May 13.

As well as owning the film, the digital release also comes with bonus features and deleted scenes. To celebrate the digital release date announcement, USA Today released one deleted scene from Captain America: Brave New World. Set in a boxing gym, Sam Wilson (Mackie) is attempting to get information about a mercenary group from Leila Taylor (Xosha Roquemore), a CIA agent working for Thaddeus Ross. As well as two more deleted scenes, the bonus features also include a visual history of Sam Wilson’s decade-long history in the MCU, a closer look at Tim Blake Nelson’s The Leader and Esposito’s Sidewinder, a director’s commentary by Julius Onah, and those oh-so-important bloopers.
Why Was ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Divisive?
Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
After a rocky few years, Marvel Studios needed Brave New World to be a hit to catapult them through to the releases of Thunderbolts* and Fantastic Four: First Steps later this year, before Avengers: Doomsday releases in 2026. Unfortunately, Brave New World underperformed critically and commercially. Brave New World holds an unfortunate Rotten Tomatoes score of 48%. The negative reviews likely played a large factor in Brave New World’s underperformance. Many criticized the movie’s half-baked script, bad dialogue, and overall underwhelming story and CGI.
Outside the merits of the film itself, the film’s performance was also likely hampered by some misunderstood comments by its star, Anthony Mackie. During the press tour, Mackie made a well-intentioned point that Captain America is a character who represents bravery, honesty, and integrity most of all, and isn’t just a blind follower of the star-spangled banner. As you might expect, some die-hard “patriots” took issue with the statement, and the bad press circulated across the internet.
