Giancarlo Esposito is teasing Marvel fans with his mystery role in Captain America: Brave New World, and the actor says that no one has correctly guessed who he’s playing.
While most of the characters appearing in the film have been announced, including Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson/Captain America (obviously), Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross (Harrison Ford), Betty Ross (Liv Tyler), Sameul Sterns (Tim Blake Nelson), and Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez), Esposito’s role has remained a closely guarded secret.
Fans have desperately guessed at who Esposito might be playing in the new MCU film. However, speaking at a recent convention (via ComicBookMovie.com), Esposito said that no one has correctly guessed who he’s playing in Brave New World. The actor briefly described his mysterious character before dropping the bombshell that all the online guesses have been wrong. Esposito said:
“The character I’m playing is a badass. That always excites me. For me to develop that character in line with the character’s inception is a fascinating art for me. I had an incredible time shooting it. I’m not telling you who I’m playing… people are trying to guess and no one has guessed correctly yet.”

Giancarlo Esposito Originally Wanted to Play Charles Xavier
There are hundreds of potential Marvel Comics characters that Esposito could be playing in Captain America: Brave New World. However, it’s almost certain that the actor isn’t playing a role he’s chased for a long time. Before joining the MCU in Brave New World, Esposito said that he’d like to play Charles Xavier in a Marvel movie. So far, two actors have played Xavier in live-action movies. Patrick Stewart first brought the role to life in the original slate of Fox’s X-Men movies. James McAvoy then took over as a younger version of the character following X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Esposito recently revealed why he wanted to play Professor Xavier in a Marvel movie. While discussing his role in the A24 horror film MaXXXine, Esposito revealed he wanted to play the role after reading a fan casting online. The actor said:
“The fans really started the Professor X rumor and I loved it. I went along for the ride because I love the fans. I started thinking about Professor X because I feel like that could be a character that I would really exel at and really be great in.”
