Filmed live at NYC’s Town Hall, “From Bleak To Dark” sees Maron cover a handful of touchy topics with his characteristic cynical charm. Here’s a synopsis for the upcoming special, courtesy of HBO:
Legendary comedian and podcaster Marc Maron stars in his first-ever HBO comedy special filmed in front of a live audience at New York City’s Town Hall. Over the course of a hilarious and deeply personal hour, Maron explores such universal topics as getting older, antisemitism and faith, and the superiority of having cats over children – especially during the pandemic. The comedian also opens up about the loss of his partner in 2020 and reestablishing his complicated relationship with his father. Funny and fearless, MARC MARON: FROM BLEAK TO DARK showcases the comedian’s expertly layered cynicism as he deftly weaves humor and pathos into his signature style of storytelling.
Besides his stand-up career, Maron hosts the super-popular podcast “WTF With Marc Maron.” Recent acting performances for Maron include Netflix’s “GLOW,” “Joker,” “Spenser Confidential,” and “Stardust.” Last year, Maron also provided voice acting for the films “The Bad Guys” and “DC League Of Superpets.” “End Times Fun,” Maron’s previous stand-up special, received a 2021 Critics’ Choice Award nomination.
Steven Feinartz directs “From Bleak To Dark,” with David Martin, Kelly Van Valkenburg, and Maron serving as executive producers for the special.
Few contemporary comedians match Marc Marco’s clout, making “From Bleak To Dark” a must-see for stand-up fans. The special premieres on HBO on February 11 and will also be available to stream on HBO Max. Watch a trailer for the special below.
