Chris Pratt Suspiciously Swerves ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ & ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ Return Question

Mar 1, 2025

Chris Pratt avoided talking about whether he would return to the MCU as Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars while attending the premiere of Netflix’s The Electric State, which happens to be a Russo brothers sci-fi adventure. The Guardians of the Galaxy star said a lot without saying much at all, as a Deadline reporter pointed out that fans would like to see him reunite with the Russo Brothers again, to which Pratt responded with a serious case of bombastic side-eye, adding, “Oh, I know that. I know,” before hurriedly being moved along. You can check out the video of the suspicious exchange below.
Marvel Studios has reportedly enlisted over 60 MCU heroes to take on Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, and directors Joe and Anthony Russo are preparing to begin principal photography on the movie in March. However, it might be quite a while until fans find out exactly which cast members are involved with the forthcoming team-up, as Marvel is notorious for keeping spoilers under wraps (or, at least, trying to maintain an air of mystery) for its biggest productions.

Ranking All 4 MCU Movies Made by the Russo Brothers

The Russo Brothers are returning to the MCU, so here are all 4 movies they’ve directed within the shared cinematic universe so far, ranked.

That being said, some actors have already confirmed their roles in the latest Avengers movie. Tom Holland will be swinging back into action as Spider-Man alongside Anthony Mackie, who is reprising the role of Captain America, Hayley Atwell as Agent Peggy Carter, and Marvel’s First Family following their first MCU outing in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Benedict Cumberbatch initially denied his involvement with Avengers: Doomsday but has since retracted his previous statement on the matter.
When Will the Legendary Star-Lord Return?

Pratt made his MCU debut as Star-Lord in 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy before returning for two sequels in 2017 and 2023 (he also reprised the role for Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Thor: Love and Thunder). Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 marked the end of his adventures with the titular ragtag team, but a post-credits scene attached to the movie came packaged with the grand statement that “The Legendary Star-Lord will return,” prompting fans to speculate about the character’s next appearance.
Many believe it is not a question of “if” he will return, but more “when” he will be back on our screens. The teasing line of text could hint at a potential solo adventure for Quill, taking inspiration from the comic book of the same name, but there is also a chance that the wise-cracking character could pop up in an ensemble movie again. With two Avengers movies on the horizon, it’s quite possible that Star-Lord could make an appearance in one or both of those features to help protect the universe from threats.
Speculation is likely to amp up in the lead-up to Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled for release on May 1, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars, which will arrive in theaters just over 12 months later on May 7, 2027.
