A year after he was attacked on stage at the Oscars, Chris Rock will be performing live on Netflix in 2023.

Fans will be able to catch Chris Rock live and uncensored on Netflix in March 2023. It was recently announced that Rock would be hosting a live stand-up comedy special on Netflix sometime next year, marking the first live broadcast from the streamer. A new video announcement has Rock revealing that the special, Chris Rock: Selective Outrage, has been scheduled for March 4, 2023, almost a year to the day after Rock was smacked at the Oscars by Will Smith on March 27 at 10 PM ET/7PM PT.

“Chris Rock is one of the most iconic and important comedic voices of our generation,” Netflix VP of Stand-Up and Comedy Formats, Robbie Praw, has said of the global special. “We’re thrilled the entire world will be able to experience a live Chris Rock comedy event and be a part of Netflix history. This will be an unforgettable moment and we’re so honored that Chris is carrying this torch.”

This will also mark the first time Rock has appeared on a major platform following the Oscars controversy. He has continued to perform stand-up on tour, sometimes joking about what happened with Will Smith. It seems likely he will address the incident in some way during the Netflix special, given how close he is to the anniversary, though he may not spend too much time on it.

“I’m not a victim,” Rock has said on stage of the incident, noting he wanted to forget it and move on. “Yeah, that sh*t hurt, motherf***er. But I shook that sh*t off and went to work the next day. I don’t go to the hospital for a paper cut.”

Shortly after the slap, Rock has previously been quoted as saying on stage, “I’m still kind of processing what happened. So, at some point I’ll talk about that sh*t. And it will be serious and funny.”

Rock is being selective with where he pops up. It was reported that he turned down hosting next year’s Oscars, something he joked was similar to Nicole Brown Simpson going “back to the restaurant.” He has had some appearances on the big and small screens, which includes a role in David O. Russell’s Amsterdam. He also participated in a tribute special for legendary comedian Bob Saget that premiered on Netflix earlier this year.

Chris Rock: Selective Outrage will stream live on Netflix on March 27 at 10 PM ET/7PM PT.
