‘Citadel’ Season 2 Coming 2026, Spinoffs Officially Cancelled

Apr 16, 2025

We now have an official release window for the spy series “Citadel,” starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra-Jonas from The Russo Brothers, as Amazon MGM Studios‘ head of television, Vernon Sanders (via Deadline), has revealed that the flagship show is coming to the streaming service in Q2 of 2026, making this a three year between seasons.
However, it’s not all roses as both international spinoff shows, “Citadel: Honey Bunny” and “Citadel: Diana,” have been officially cancelled by the streamer. Those storylines are going to be folded into the main show. This comes after reports of pausing any future spinoffs as the company reassesses the super expensive franchise‘s future on the platform.

“Having successfully traversed India and Italy, storylines from both ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny’ and ‘Citadel: Diana’ will be woven into the upcoming second season of the mothership series ‘Citadel,’” Sanders said, sharing the grim update on the two spinoffs. “While these successful and widely enjoyed international chapters will not continue as individual series, Season 2 of Citadel will be our most exhilarating yet. With high-stakes storytelling, new additions to our amazing cast, and bold, cinematic ambition, the new season will deepen the emotional journeys of Nadia, Mason, and Orlick against the relentless force that is Manticore.”
This is all coming after the major shake-up at Amazon MGM Studios, as studio head Jennifer Salke had exited that role, and the streamer has secured creative control over the James Bond rights. Hypothetically, if Amazon did pursue Bond-related TV projects (they recently made a game show hosted by Brian Cox) or needed an extreme amount of funds to pay for those feature films, they likely wouldn’t want confusion about branding and could end up scaling back on certain spy projects and being more cautious with budgets.
Although we’re not sure this could impact the main “Citadel” show alongside things such as the “Jack Ryan” movie starring John Krasinski (more movies could be coming), and the upcoming “Rainbow Six” movie from director Chad Stahelski (“John Wick” films) and Michael B. Jordan.
Speaking of Bond, Madden, after the buzz surrounding his Netflix thriller series “Bodyguard,” there was a huge call for him to play the iconic MI6 Agent in the reboot, and he has been mentioned as a potential contender in the past.

What the future holds for “Citadel” remains to be seen, but between multiple delays and these spinoff cancellations, it doesn’t look good.
