Dan Levy And Eugene Levy In Talks To Host 2024 Emmy Awards

Aug 6, 2024

Finding a host for any award show is difficult. Ask the producers of the Academy Awards who are currently looking for a replacement for Jimmy Kimmel and his expected understudy John Mulaney. This year, the Primetime Emmy Awards are airing on ABC and the Disney network appears to have found an inspired duo to host Television’s biggest night: Emmy winners Dan Levy and his father, Eugene Levy.

As first reported by Deadline, the pair are currently in contract negotiations with ABC and the Television Academy to host the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards. The collaborators have eight Emmy statues between them, mostly for their landmark comedy series “Schitt’s Creek.” They have never hosted an awards show together, but did open the 26th Screen Actor’s Guild Awards in January 2020. Hopefully, their return to the stage won’t indicate another pandemic is on the horizon.
Since “Schitt’s Creek” ended in 2020, the younger Levy has appeared in a supporting role on HBO’s failed drama “The Idol” and directed his Netflix feature film debut, “Good Grief.” He’ll soon be seen in Kornél Mundruczó’s feature “At the Sea” and his new television series, “Standing By.” The elder Levy is about to appear as a multi-episode guest star in the upcoming fourth season of “Only Murders of the Building” and his Apple TV+ docuseries, “The Reluctant Traveler,” was recently renewed for a third season.
The 2023 Emmy Awards ceremony, delayed to January of this year due to the WGA and SAG strikes, was hosted by Anthony Anderson. Other recent hosts include Kenan Thompson, Cedric the Entertainer, and Kimmel, when ABC last broadcast the ceremony in 2020. The last duo to host the event were “Saturday Night Live’s” Michael Che and Colin Jost when NBC shepherded the telecast in 2018.
The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards will be held on September 15 and broadcast live at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET on ABC
