DC Announces New ‘Green Lantern’ Animated Series
Mar 7, 2025
DC appears to be going all in on Green Lantern as a new animated series, My Adventures with Green Lantern, was recently announced. After 2011’s box office disaster Green Lantern, it seemed like Warner Bros. and DC Comics tried to downplay the various characters’ importance, including omitting them from the Justice League roster in the DCEU. The 2020s look very Green Lantern-centric as Nathan Fillion will play Guy Gardner in Superman, with Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler set to play John Stewart and Hal Jordan incarnations of the Green Lantern in the Max series Lanterns. Now an animated version of the Green Lantern Jessica Cruz is on the way, but it will be connected to another popular Superman project outside of the DCU.
DC Studios confirmed the development of a new animated series, My Adventures with Green Lantern. According to Variety, My Adventures with Green Lantern will focus on the Green Lantern Jessica Cruz, now reimagined as a high school student, who is chosen by a Green Lantern power ring that falls out of the sky and chooses her to be its champion, changing Cruz’s life forever with complications like being dragged into an intergalactic war. My Adventures with Superman co-creator Jake Wyatt will serve as an executive producer alongside Stephanie Gonzaga, who has worked on many animated series, including Invincible, Batman: Caped Crusader, and My Adventures with Superman.

Here’s Why Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern Flopped at the Box Office
Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern is considered one of the biggest box office bombs in the history of superhero films, and here’s why.
Unlike Creature Commandos, an animated series set within James Gunn’s DCU, My Adventures with Green Lantern is not set to tie in with the Green Lanterns introduced in Superman or the live-action Lanterns series. Instead, it will be connected to the fan-favorite animated series, My Adventures with Superman. This was confirmed by series executive producer Jake Wyatt when he took to X and said, “We’re making a new show! Some of you had questions—the show WILL take place in the same timeline as My Adventures With Superman. Stoked to expand and explore that universe with my buddy @gostephgo!” See Wyatt’s post below, alongside Stephanie Gonzaga’s post announcing her involvement in the series and the first official title card for the series.
Green Lanterns Light…in Animated Form
My Adventures with Superman is an animated series that debuted on Adult Swim and Max on July 7, 2023, and instantly earned a fan following for offering a unique 21st-century take on Superman’s origin story while also feeling like a return to form for the character after a decade of dark reconstruction in stories like Man of Steel and Injustice: Gods Among Us. The series has proven popular enough that despite a Superman movie on the way, a third season of My Adventures with Superman is in the works. Now, the news of My Adventures with Green Lanterns might imply that a separate interconnected DC animated universe could be on the table. A tease of My Adventures with Green Lantern could appear in My Adventures with Superman Season 3.
The series titular Green Lantern, Jessica Cruz, is a relatively new character to DC Comics. She was first teased in “Green Lantern” #20 in 2013 before making her first proper appearance in “Justice League” #31 in August 2014 as the first female Green Lantern. The character became a fan-favorite quickly and has been adapted into several animated DC titles, including DC Super Hero Girls, Justice League vs. The Fatal Five, and DC League of Super-Pets. She was also set to be one of the lead characters in HBO’s Green Lantern Corp. series before it was scrapped in favor of Lanterns.
DC and Warner Bros. seem to be very invested in getting audiences to associate the moniker of Green Lantern as being wielded among various heroes, including Jessica Cruz, John Stewart, Hal Jordan, and Guy Gardner. This opens the door for Jessica Cruz to one day appear in the DCU and for various other Green Lanterns to get the spotlight in live-action and animated film and television projects. Names like Alan Scott, Simon Baz, and Sojourner “Jo” Mullein might all get their moments to shine as the Green Lantern, either in My Adventures with Green Lantern or the DCU.
