Deadpool & Wolverine Deleted Scene Reveals the Fate of Channing Tatum’s Gambit
Aug 31, 2024
Did Gambit make it out of the Void in Deadpool & Wolverine? It took a lot of investigative work for fans to deduce whether Channing Tatum’s Gambit survived the events of the MCU sequel. After battling Casandra Nova in the Void, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) escape the TVA’s prison to save Deadpool’s timeline. However, Gambit, Blade (Wesley Snipes), Elektra (Jennifer Garner), and Laura (Dafne Keen) are left behind. The movie’s final scene showed that Laura was freed from the Void, but the other trapped heroes’ fates were left uncertain. Fans have since studied the movie’s post-credits scene frame-by-frame to determine if Gambit still lives. Now, a newly released deleted scene offers much more clarity…
Ryan Reynolds teased fans by releasing the deleted footage on X/Twitter, with the 20-second clip showing Gambit wandering around Cassandra Nova’s base following their battle. As the camera pans up from the bodies towards Gambit’s face, the character smiles into the sky, teasing that we haven’t seen the last of the character in the MCU.
You can check out the full video below, which will no doubt lead to much celebration and applause from Gambit fans.
Alongside the post, Reynolds revealed that Gambit is indeed still alive, and the clip he revealed is a better look at the footage that fans examined from the post-credits scene. Reynolds said:
“*whispers* Marvel Sparkle Circle
A version of the sequence is in the film — on one of the monitors in the deep background of the TVA”
Channing Tatum Is Worryingly Desperate to Play Gambit Again in the Future
Channing Tatum’s love for Gambit runs deep. The actor has previously discussed how he loved the iconic X-Men character as a kid, as the actor grew up around the Cajun community in Mississippi — which was the inspiration for his…interesting accent in the movie. Tatum was attached to star in a standalone Gambit movie for some time but, after years of development hell, the movie was scrapped when Disney bought the rights to the characters from Fox in 2019.
With the character’s fate in Deadpool & Wolverine left open, Channing Tatum is desperate to play Gambit again in the MCU. Channeling the character’s chaotic nature, Tatum described the terrible things he is willing to do to play the character again in the future. The actor said:
“I would kill kittens to make [a Gambit movie]. I would do lots of terrible things to make that happen.”
Gambit’s reappearance in the MCU has yet to be confirmed by Marvel Studios, but there is still plenty more multiversal madness to come. While Kevin Feige hasn’t greenlit the Gambit movie yet, Channing Tatum has revealed that the Marvel president is interested in bringing the character into the main MCU in the future. Tatum revealed:
“Kevin Feige, who runs Marvel, I love him so much. He literally was like, ‘Look, I love Gambit. I just don’t know how to do it right now. I don’t know how he fits into what we’re doing. And so I need to- I need to have a minute to figure it out.’ And now we’ve sort of cracked it a little bit.”
Deadpool & Wolverine
is currently in theaters.
