Deadpool & Wolverine IMAX Review: Cinema is Fun Again!
Jul 29, 2024
It’s been so long since cinemas had a genuinely decent comedy released that gave no f**ks about what was said, who it offended or how it came across. The best thing about this is, it’s a Disney movie!
Joke after joke hits every single time in Deadpool & Wolverine as the three movies in the franchise are still as relevant and as funny as ever, I’d go as far as saying that Deadpool & Wolverine is the FUNNIEST of the three movies by a country mile.
Cameos aplenty whilst mocking Marvel, Fox and Disney is no easy task but cameos themselves are just a very easy fan service but one cameo in particular took us all back to our Marvel roots as a certain vampire hunter made an appearance to rapturous applause from the audience the moment he came into frame.
Most Marvel films seem to make material for the fans as they stuff fan service down our throats at every opportunity with most Marvel slate after Avengers: End Game becoming stale. You get the odd gem now and again (Guardians of the Galaxy 3 for me) but they’re mostly miss, after miss and this was highlighted in the movie itself. Deadpool puts the audience first and brings us along for the ride like we’re all a Marvel family once more.
Whilst this buddy superhero comedy is a little light on narrative as it begins it doesn’t matter as a stellar soundtrack, epic action scenes and belly laughs aplenty combine for a truly incredible cinema experience, not since Jackass debuted in cinemas have I heard an audience laugh so much, I miss that as the woke generation have forced comedy movies into a very early grave as less and less of them are being made every single year.
Up steps Deadpool with two middle fingers waving in the air and that’s why he endears so many!
Not once but twice has Wolverine had a send-off of epic proportions but instead of the tearful ending of Logan the twisty multi-verse has enabled us to celebrate his character once again but with a much better send-off.
I do kind of feel for the director/writers of Logan who thought they had said goodbye to this incredible character once and for all but how it was done in Deadpool was just perfect, no longer will Bye Bye Bye by NSYNC ever go into hiding in musical history, this song has been resurrected much like Wolverine and is here to stay.
Cue those TikTok dances!
How on earth these guys managed to get away with saying some of the stuff they did is a testament to how hard everyone believes in the project and we love them all for it, within days the film has already amassed nearly half a billion dollars at the box office and I’m sure it’ll fly to much, much more!
Seeing it all on a big IMAX screen made Deadpool & Wolverine all the more engaging. A giant movie screen, a large audience, beautifully crisp images and an incredible sound system put me front and centre of this joy-to-behold superhero flick!
Stick around for some end credits which are very much tongue-in-cheek and to all of those involved with this project, thank you for making cinema fun again!
Our Rating
Summary
It’s 5-Star fun and leaving a cinema with a smile on my face is certainly a rare occurrence. Deadpool has made cinema fun once more with a tongue-in-cheek fun poking at Marvel and Disney that fans will lap up in an instant. A joy to behold and a film to be proud of!
