Even when playing the most suave, badass characters, there remains a divide between the actor and the character they’re portraying… but not with Wesley Snipes. He is Blade — at least, according to his Deadpool & Wolverine co-star Dafne Keen. The new MCU movie, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the titular roles, brought Snipes back as the Daywalker for the first time in 20 years. His surprise appearance felt like the character had been ripped straight from the first Blade movie, as he delivered stone-cold lines whilst slicing through Cassandra Nova’s (Emma Corrin) henchmen.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Dafne Keen discussed working with Wesley Snipes on Deadpool & Wolverine. Keen returns as X23 following her first appearance in Logan, and appears alongside Blade in The Void. Keen described her first interaction with Snipes on set, and revealed that the actor is just as cool as his iconic, vampire-killing character. Keen said:

“I think the person who changes the least is Wesley. Wesley is like Blade off-camera as well. He’s so cool. I remember in the read-through, I was like ‘Hi!’ and he was like ‘Yes, sensei’ and I was wondering what was going on there.”

The production designers are the unsung heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since the very first Iron Man movie in 2008, the set dressers have been littering the locations and sets with countless Marvel Comics Easter eggs. During the height of the MCU’s success, social media and YouTube were filled with videos from fans breaking down every new trailer and leaked video frame-by-frame to ascertain as much information as possible.

While a lot of this work goes unnoticed by the general fan base, Dafne Keen and Channing Tatum (who plays Gambit in the film) hunted around the set finding as many of the hidden details as possible. Keen discussed her treasure hunting skills during the interview, revealing that her and Tatum lost themselves in scouring the cave for hidden details. However, their time as adventurers was cut short by director Shawn Levy, who said that all they had to do was ask him about the set. Keen said:

“Me and Channing were trying to spot things. We were like, ‘Is that Scarlett Witch?’ and he’d be like ‘I think so, yeah.’ We’d be like, ‘Hulk’s bed?’ ‘Yeah, okay.’ ‘Did you see that weapon on the wall?’ We were trying to find Easter eggs so desperately and Shawn was like, ‘If you ask me I’ll just tell you.'”

Every cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine was kept a closely guarded secret right up until the movie’s release. However, Dafne Keen’s surprise appearance as Laura was revealed in the movie’s final trailer. As excited as fans were about Keen reprising the role, it led to an awkward moment in the interview, as the actress had previously lied about playing X23 again. Jokingly refusing to apologize, Dafne Keen said:

“I’m sorry. I get paid to lie to you. It’s not my fault. There’s a reason they hire me to do my job.”
