Deadpool & Wolverine Star Says There’s a Lot of ‘Kevin Feige Jokes’ in the MCU Sequel

Mar 19, 2024

Summary

Deadpool & Wolverine
will poke fun at the President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, according to star Karan Soni.
Soni reprises his role as the lovable Dopinder, and he calls Deadpool/Wade Wilson’s first MCU adventure a “really good” movie.
Soni also reveals that Feige has a good sense of humor, fortunately, because the film takes “a lot” of shots at him.

Wade Wilson’s (Ryan Reynolds) lovable buddy, the taxi-driving Dopinder himself, actor Karan Soni, had the opportunity to meet the President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, on the set of Deadpool & Wolverine. However, despite the fact that Soni says Feige was a joy to meet, that didn’t stop the upcoming sequel from making fun of the head of Marvel. Soni spoke with Perri Nemiroff at the SXSW film festival, and he revealed that the first Deadpool entry in the MCU takes a number of shots at Feige. Check out what Soni had to say below (per Collider):

There’s a lot of Kevin jokes [in the movie]. You have to have a good sense of humor and he does. So that’s cool.

Deadpool & Wolverine Release Date July 26, 2024 Studio Marvel Studios, 20th Century Studios, 21 Laps Entertainment Tagline Everyone deserves a happy ending. Franchise Marvel

Soni has now played the character of Dopinder in all three Deadpool films after having stepped into the role for the first time in 2016’s seminal superhero movie about the Merc with a Mouth. Soni also revealed that he was, in fact, “surprisingly starstruck” to come face to face with the “Marvelous” Mr. Kevin Feige. Soni said in the same interview:

“And I got to meet Kevin Feige, and I was surprisingly starstruck. I was a little bit like, ‘Oh my gosh, it’s him.’ Which I was surprised that I was. But it’s very cool to see those minds together. You know, him, Kevin’s obviously completely changed the industry, and then Ryan [Reynolds] who’s such a genius, like them combining their power, it’s pretty exciting.”

Soni Reveals Deadpool & Wolverine Is ‘Really Good’

Alongside the jokes, Deadpool & Wolverine promises lots of surprises, and co-star Karan Soni doesn’t want fans to spoil the film. During the interview, he revealed how “secretive” the sequel starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman has been, and admits that the President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, was “very sweet, very kind” when they met on the set of Deadpool 3.

“It was just like, this one was so different for me because we didn’t get a script or anything. It was very secretive. And so we were just in this, I got the scene like the day before or whatever, and we walked into the sound stage. And he [Kevin Feige] just appeared next to Hugh Jackman. And I was just like, ‘I don’t know what’s happening.’ It was very crazy, but he was very sweet, very kind. He came up and said hi to all of us from the original movies and stuff, and he seemed excited himself by what was happening. And then Ryan [Reynolds] is definitely like, you know, calling him out a lot at the moment.”

As it turns out, the original version of Deadpool 3 would have been much different than the film that will drop in July. But ultimately, Feige and Marvel Studios ended up in charge of the project, which will introduce the Merc with a Mouth to the Adamantium-clawed X-Men member in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And Soni thinks the movie will “be really good,” as he added:

“I can say that I think it’ll be really good, this movie, and from my little experience of my part of it, it’s definitely… Ryan’s taking full advantage of the MCU and playing with all the toys. It also feels like it’s coming at a perfect time for the MCU because it’s ready for a little bit of a shake-up, and he’s definitely shaking it up. And so I think like, this is great that it’s coming at this time, and they’re very willing to make fun of themselves, which is important.”

Deadpool & Wolverine
opens exclusively in theaters on July 26.
