Dermot Mulroney Would Love to Reprise His ‘Righteous Gemstones’ Role as Johnny Seasons
Apr 6, 2025
Dermot Mulroney
has found himself a new home on Chicago Fire, as Chief Dom Pascal, but during a recent interview with MovieWeb’s George Edelman the actor reflected on some of the other shows he has been part of, and whether he would consider returning to any of them.
With nostalgic resurrections being a big thing right now, with shows like Frasier, Buffy, and more getting belated returns, Mulroney singled out one show that he would have loved to return to, but now seems to have missed his chance. He said:
“I’ve collected a couple of things that I wish would come back, but that’s only since television because movies are movies so you would have to go a prequel or a sequel and that’s like a different thing. But if you’ve got a part in a show and they didn’t kill you yet…I was hoping that guy on Shameless would return into the later episodes. I can tell you one that bugs a lot of people, me more than anyone, is The Righteous Gemstones. I was in the first episode, and I just read they are incredible to watch and more power to them, but their fourth season coming out is their last one. So what were they thinking in not bringing back that Reverand Johnny Seasons. I felt he had a chip on his should and had something to say.
Call David Green and Danny McBride and tell them to spin off.”

‘The Righteous Gemstones’ Comes to an End This Year
HBO
The long-awaited fourth and final season of HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones finally made its debut on March 9, and will bring the season to a close on May 4. The fourth season has been gaining some strong reviews so far, with the story of the dysfunctional family of televangelists heading into its final stretch as a clear winner with fans. Although this is the end for the series, Mulroney’s tongue-in-cheek hope for a spinoff may not be completely out of the question.
There are many shows that have concluded in the belief that their story is told, but the magic of streaming’s never-ending pursuit of content has seen several unexpectedly return, or deliver new stories based on specific characters. The Walking Dead has delivered some incredibly popular spinoffs since the flagship series ended, and The Big Bang Theory’s list of spinoffs is expanding again soon. Then, of course, there is Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe to consider as well.
Whether The Righteous Gemstones does get a sequel series, spinoff, or possibly even a prequel, it seems that Mulroney is only a call away to reprise his role. Meanwhile, he has his hands full with Chicago Fire, where Dom Pascal’s life crumbled following the death of his wife, and the aftermath and fallout is set to continue across the rest of the season. While the character has had a tumultuous introduction to the series this season, it is a part that Mulroney would be happy to continue playing for some time to come.
