Disney+ and Hulu Series ‘Goosebumps’ Season 2 Debuts January 10

Jan 6, 2025

With a bevy of series and movies from global properties like Star Wars and Marvel joining Disney+ and Hulu each month, it’s easy for an under-the-radar young adult series to go unnoticed — even those backed by nostalgic IP. Back in October 2023, that’s precisely what happened when an ingenious interpretation of Goosebumps debuted on the streaming platforms. A little over a year later, fans are finally getting the second season—Goosebumps: The Vanishing—slated to be released on January 10.
Based on the series of beloved yet terrifying children’s horror novels by the same name, Goosebumps (2023) serialized the anthology series originally penned by author R. L. Stine. Of course, this wasn’t the first adaptation of the acclaimed series; there was a ’90s television series that closely adapted individual stories and two films starring Jack Black as the horror author himself. Goosebumps (2023), however, differed considerably from the book series and the ’90s show by giving the anthology an overarching narrative that connected the horror narratives.

Goosebumps did well enough to earn a second season, but it never broke out in a significant way, either. And it’s a shame because the first season featured some genuinely unique ideas over the course of an easily bingeable 10 episodes. With another season on its way to Disney+ in just one week, there is hope that this underappreciated series might finally get some much-deserved recognition in the historically slower month of January.
What to Expect From Season 2, ‘Goosebumps: The Vanishing’

Akin to American Horror Story or Fargo, Goosebumps is making each season serialized. The Vanishing will feature a new story in a new location with a new cast of characters. The Season 1 cast, featuring Justin Long, Isa Briones (Star Trek: Picard), and English actor Zack Morris, is being replaced by David Schwimmer, Ana Ortiz, Nickelodeon star Jayden Bartels, and Sam McCarthy (Dead to Me).
While little is known about the overarching plot of Goosebumps: The Vanishing, the creative team still has plenty of unused source material. The Goosebumps franchise includes over 60 books, but the first season only referenced a fraction of this vast library.
Judging by the well-received first season, showrunner Hilary Winston, executive producers Nicholas Stoller and Rob Letterman, as well as the writing team behind Goosebump: The Vanishing will have more than a few twists up their sleeve throughout the season’s eight-episode run. And since Season 2 is a unique story from Season 1, there’s no need for the unacquainted to binge all 10 episodes before next week. That said, it’s definitely worth your time – especially if you’re a fan of the books or just looking for something lightly spooky to watch this month. Goosebumps: The Vanishing will premiere on Disney+ and Hulu on January 10.
