Doomsday’ Will See Tenoch Huerta Mejía Return as Namor

Apr 1, 2025

The ever-growing cast list for the upcoming MCU sequel Avengers: Doomsday continues to churn out names (and likely will do so for the next few hours, if not days), and while many of the names emblazoned across the back of a chair are unsurprising, one name has stood out so far. The ongoing announcement has now confirmed that one of the MCU’s best (but sadly forgotten) villains will return to the franchise several years after making their debut.
As per the video announcement, stood alongside MCU staples such as Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, and Anthony Mackie is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Tenoch Huerta Mejía, who will return as the sometimes villain and occasional antihero, Namor. Unlike many of the names revealed so far, this comes as something of a surprise, as Namor has not played any part in the franchise since his debut back in the 2022 Black Panther sequel. Nor has there been much indication that he will be back.

“I’m moving on,” said the fan favorite MCU star.

Clearly, Marvel Studios was just keeping it a secret, with Namor now set to share the screen with the likes of Thor, Ant-Man, Captain America, and reunite with Letitia Wright’s Shuri, AKA Black Panther, who has also now been confirmed to return for Avengers: Doomsday.
Namor Has a Rich History With The Fantastic Four

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

As well as joining the ranks of the MCU heroes in the blockbuster comic book crossover, Namor will finally come face-to-face with The Fantastic Four. Both Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing have been confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday so far, with the likes of Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm expected to follow. Following the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July, the Marvel family are expected to play a major role in Avengers: Doomsday, which should come as little surprise considering that titular villain Doctor Doom is their primary adversary.
As for Namor, the underwater king has a long history with The Fantastic Four in the pages of Marvel Comics. Created by writer and artist Bill Everett and appearing during the Golden Age of Marvel Comics throughout the 1940s and 50s, Namor returned during the Silver Age in “Fantastic Four #4” in 1962. Becoming a fully-fledged antihero and swearing vengeance on the surface world, Namor has often found himself in a romantic rivalry with Reed Richards, with both vying for the affections of Sue Storm.
It had been assumed by some that the reason for Tenoch Huerta Mejía’s Namor being largely forgotten was due to the allegations of sexual assault that were leveled against him back in 2023. Accused by musician, activist, and former partner Maria Elena Ríos, Huerta Mejía has since denied the allegations and, at time of writing, no judicial complaints have yet been made.
